Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat: What PC Players Need to Do

Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat is the new core anti-cheat protection used by the PC version of Apex Legends from September 29, 2026. EA and Respawn are replacing Easy Anti-Cheat after what the companies describe as a long partnership with Epic Games, bringing the PC protection layer onto EA Javelin Anticheat instead.

For players, the migration is deliberately simple. EA says PC players will be prompted to download an Apex Legends game update. Once that update has finished installing, launch the game normally and the migration to EA Javelin happens automatically. There is no separate migration wizard that players need to hunt down and no special registration process attached to the change.

How to switch to Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat

The practical process is download, install, launch and play. Make sure the September 29 Apex Legends update has completed before launching the game. Starting Apex after the update is installed triggers the automatic migration to EA Javelin Anticheat.

That distinction matters if you open Apex and think nothing has changed. Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat is part of the updated PC protection layer, not a separate game mode or an optional add-on. EA’s announcement does not tell players to manually uninstall Easy Anti-Cheat first, download Javelin from an unofficial website, or alter Windows security settings before launching.

Does Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat need Secure Boot?

No. EA explicitly says Apex Legends does not require players to enable Secure Boot for this migration at this time. That is worth spelling out because other games protected by EA Javelin Anticheat can use Secure Boot requirements, and EA maintains a general Secure Boot help guide for supported games.

For Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat specifically, EA’s September 24 announcement says players can simply download the game update, install it, launch Apex and play. Do not change BIOS or UEFI settings merely because you have seen Secure Boot instructions written for another EA game.

Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat: Why Apex is moving away from Easy Anti-Cheat

EA says moving Apex to its own Javelin technology gives its anti-cheat teams greater visibility into emerging threats and more flexibility to develop and improve detections as cheating changes. The company frames the migration as part of maintaining competitive integrity across Apex.

EA’s September 2026 Javelin report gives broader context for the technology. Across the EA ecosystem, Javelin protects 20 titles and 57.1 million players, according to EA. The company reports 26.7 million cheat attempts prevented over the previous year, detection accuracy above 99 percent and a stability error rate below one percent. Those figures describe Javelin across EA titles, not Apex alone.

What happens on consoles?

Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat is specifically the new core protection layer for PC. EA has not announced this September 29 migration as a Javelin client installation for PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2.

That does not mean console anti-cheat work has stopped. EA says it continues investing in specialised data models and server-side detection methods aimed at console-specific cheating. The Marked midseason patch notes also say Respawn introduced systems for detecting unauthorised controller hardware or software across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2, with detected behaviour subject to review and possible bans.

What PC players should do on September 29

For most PC players, Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat should require very little intervention. Allow the normal Apex update to download completely, install it through the platform you already use, then launch the game. The migration is designed to happen automatically at that point.

If you are reading older Javelin instructions from another EA title, keep them separate from the Apex-specific announcement. In particular, the presence of an EA Secure Boot support article does not override Respawn’s direct statement that Secure Boot is not currently required for Apex. Use Apex-specific instructions first whenever the requirements differ.

Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat at a glance

The important points are straightforward: the PC migration date is September 29, 2026; Easy Anti-Cheat is being replaced as Apex’s PC anti-cheat system; the migration follows the normal game update; launching after installation performs the switch automatically; and Secure Boot is not currently required for Apex Legends.

Apex Legends Javelin Anti-Cheat is therefore a significant technical change behind the game, but EA has intentionally kept the player-facing migration short. Install the current Apex update and launch normally rather than making speculative BIOS, Windows or anti-cheat changes that EA has not asked Apex players to make.
