Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction is Baal’s Prime Evil alignment in Season 15, earned after defeating the Echo of Baal in the Worldstone Chamber beyond Arreat Summit. Bearing it activates a Cold-damage Iconic Power and sends your seasonal reputation into the Destruction track.

This is a Prime Evil alignment item, not one of the eight Soul Splinter gems you socket into jewellery. You can carry one Prime Evil Splinter at a time, build reputation in its track, and unlock eight activity modifiers plus six upgrades to its Iconic Power through War Plans.

How to get Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction

Follow The Horadrim’s Fate into the Worldstone Keep Waking Nightmare after defeating Tal Rasha. Cross Arreat Summit and beat the three Ancients, then clear Baal’s minion waves in the Throne of Destruction. Follow him into the Worldstone Chamber and defeat his echo, destroying summoned appendages when they appear. Claim the Splinter afterward. This first reward is part of the quest, not a Lair Boss summon.

After the story introduction, the largest Waking Nightmares become the route for changing alignment. Blizzard says you can acquire another Prime Evil Splinter there when you want to switch reputation paths, so Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction is not a permanent character lock.

What Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction does

While you bear it, Baal’s Iconic Power periodically erupts during combat and deals Cold damage. The reputation track then improves that power six times as you progress, alongside the activity modifiers tied to the track.

The power has a real downside: carrying Baal’s Splinter makes you more vulnerable to Baal. That matters most when you replay the matching Prime Evil content at higher difficulty. Treat the Splinter as borrowed power with a cost, not a free passive bonus.

Best activities for Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction

Blizzard ties this track to the Undercity and Lair Bosses. If those activities dominate your current farming loop, Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction is the efficient alignment because your seasonal reputation and War Plans modifiers advance where you are already spending time.

The best alignment depends more on the activity you intend to farm than on your character class. A Barbarian and a Sorcerer can both prefer Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction if they are farming the Undercity and Lair Bosses; the class-specific combat build is handled separately by socketed Soul Splinters, gear and skills.

When to switch away from Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction

Move away from Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction when Lair Bosses and the Undercity stop being your main loop. If you switch into Pit pushing, Mephisto’s Hatred track is more efficient; if Helltide or Hordes take over, Diablo’s Terror track fits better. All three can still feed Tree of Whispers progress.

If your current route no longer matches the Undercity and Lair Bosses, staying on Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction simply because you earned it first wastes part of the seasonal system. The largest Waking Nightmares exist specifically so you can pivot without starting another character.

Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction versus Soul Splinters

Prime Evil Splinters choose your seasonal alignment and reputation path. Soul Splinters are separate Jewelry gems with a boon and a liability, and you can equip up to three of those at once. Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction does not consume a Jewelry socket and is not upgraded through Horadric Cube Amalgamation.

You can use Baal’s Splinter of Destruction for the activity route while choosing Anguish, Pain, Hellfire or another Soul Splinter according to your actual class build. The two progression systems work independently.

Diablo 4 Splinter of Destruction: Baal loot and quest issues

Baal’s story encounter takes place at Arreat Summit as part of the Hell’s Legacy quest. Blizzard fixed an issue with collecting Baal’s loot in patch 3.2.3. If the loot was inaccessible during an earlier attempt, check the current patch before repeating it. If your alignment Powers remain unavailable after consuming a Splinter too early, the Prime Evil Powers quest fix covers that separate problem.
