To start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2, you need access to the Visions of Eternity expansion and the September 15, 2026 game update. Code of Creation is the final story arc of that expansion, containing chapters 14 through 19 and beginning with Deeper Revelations.
The cleanest way to start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2 is through the Story Journal in the Hero panel. Guild Wars 2 uses that journal to switch between expansion stories and episodes, so Code of Creation appears as part of the Visions of Eternity storyline rather than as a separate expansion or standalone purchase.

How to start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2
Open the Hero panel and go to the Story Journal, then select the Visions of Eternity section. The Code of Creation sequence begins with Deeper Revelations and continues through Under Pressure, Ripples in the Pond, The Burden of Seeing, So Be It and Everything That We Are.
If another story is active on that character, the Story Journal allows you to switch to a different available story. Guild Wars 2 warns that switching can replace the currently active story progress for that chapter, so it is sensible to finish any checkpoint you care about before changing the active entry.
Do you need Visions of Eternity?
Yes. Code of Creation is one of the three post-launch quarterly releases included with Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity. It is not part of the free core game and it is not sold as a separate episode. Access is tied to ownership of the expansion on the account you are using.
The expansion originally launched on October 28, 2025. Code of Creation is its third and final quarterly content update, after Raids and Wardrobe and The Only Way. That is why the new story is listed inside the existing expansion section of the Story Journal.
Where Code of Creation sits in the story
Before you start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2 for the story, it makes sense to finish The Only Way first. The previous arc ends with Vloxx completing the Divitium Nava rite and revealing that his ambitions go beyond the Inquest. Code of Creation picks up from that point as the Commander pursues the consequences of what Vloxx has become.
The six new chapters are numbered 14 through 19 across the complete Visions of Eternity story. The earlier expansion story covers the initial investigation of Castora and the Inquest, while The Only Way contains chapters 9 through 13. Code of Creation is therefore a direct continuation, not an isolated side story.
Where the new story takes you
When you start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2, the new story leads into Leyspring Hollows, the explorable zone added with the update. ArenaNet describes the area as a cavernous section of Castora where the Commander follows both Kuda’s Inquest and Vloxx. The region is tied closely to seer history and the Stewards of Galdra.
That means players who start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2 are also opening the route into the update’s new map. Other content in the patch, including Solitary Throne, Nexus of Eternity and Rift Amplification, forms part of the wider release but is distinct from simply progressing through the six story chapters.
Can you replay Code of Creation?
After you start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2 and complete its chapters, Guild Wars 2 supports replay through the Story Journal. Once a story entry has been completed, the journal can be used to replay it, and the game can expose chapter checkpoints where relevant for achievements. That is useful if you later return for story-specific objectives without wanting to restart the entire expansion.
The important requirement when you want to start Code of Creation in Guild Wars 2 is therefore account access to Visions of Eternity. You do not need to buy another DLC on September 15. Install the current game update, open the Visions of Eternity Story Journal and activate the new finale from there.
