Rust Lighthouse Repair: How It Unlocks the Deep Sea After a Wipe

Rust lighthouse repair now controls the start of the deep-sea cycle on maps that contain a lighthouse. Introduced in the Printed and Polished update on 5 November 2026, the system means the regular deep-sea cycle doesn’t begin at the start of a wipe on those maps. Players must repair a lighthouse first.

All the lighthouses share repair progress, and maps without one skip the requirement entirely. Here’s when the sea becomes available and how Rust lighthouse repair works.

On maps with at least one lighthouse, the normal deep-sea cycle is held back until the lighthouse repair requirement has been completed. Finishing the repair immediately starts that regular cycle. From that point, the deep sea continues through its normal behaviour rather than requiring a new repair each time the cycle changes.

Once the repair is complete, the normal deep-sea cycle runs. This isn’t a separate event you have to start each time you want to sail out.

Do you have to repair every lighthouse?

No. Facepunch says the lighthouses on a map share resources and repair progress. That means the community isn’t expected to restore every lighthouse individually. Repairing one is enough to complete the repair state for all of them.

Contributions made at different lighthouses count towards the same job. When one is fully repaired, they’re all repaired.

Before gathering materials, check whether another group has already completed the repair on your server.

What happens on a Rust map without a lighthouse?

Those maps are the exception. If the procedural map has no lighthouse at all, the regular deep-sea cycle is active automatically. You don’t need to find a substitute monument or perform the repair somewhere else.

There’s no replacement monument to find. Rust lighthouse repair only matters on maps that actually have a lighthouse.

When does the deep sea start after repair?

Immediately after the shared repair is completed, according to Facepunch’s November notes. The deep sea then follows its normal cycle. The announcement doesn’t set out an exact universal time of day or number of minutes between particular deep-sea encounters, so a fixed countdown would be misleading.

Repairing the lighthouse starts the regular cycle; it doesn’t guarantee a particular deep-sea encounter or loot drop at that moment.

Which materials are needed to repair the lighthouse?

The developer announcement confirms the new mechanic and shared progress but does not publish a complete material list, exact quantities or every interaction step needed at the monument. Check the repair requirement shown by your current game before gathering a large stockpile based on older guides or community guesses.

Don’t follow a claimed universal button prompt or fixed resource count unless it matches what the game is showing.

Is this the same as the Bandit Camp helipad repair?

No. The earlier Air Wolf helipad repair introduced in the October Livestock update is a different mechanic in a different location. The November lighthouse system is tied specifically to activating the deep-sea cycle.

Mainland scientist boats are another, separate November addition. They roam the island’s waters independently of the lighthouse-controlled deep-sea cycle. Our scientist boats guide explains their patrols and targets.

On a new wipe, the rule is straightforward: complete the shared Rust lighthouse repair where lighthouses exist, or sail as normal on maps without them.
