Rust Uzi 9mm was added to the PC version of the game in the Printed and Polished update on 5 November 2026. Unlike a typical SMG with just one firing behaviour, the new weapon changes between automatic and semi-automatic fire depending on whether its stock is folded.
The stock changes how the Rust Uzi 9mm fires, not just how it looks. Here’s what happens in each position and how to switch between them.
Rust Uzi 9mm folded vs unfolded: what changes?

The choice is between automatic fire with shield compatibility and more accurate semi-automatic fire.
| Configuration | Fire mode | Notable advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Folded stock | Fully automatic | Compatible with shields |
| Unfolded stock | Semi-automatic | Improved accuracy |
When the stock is folded, holding fire produces automatic shots. It is also the configuration Facepunch explicitly describes as shield-compatible. With the stock unfolded, the same weapon switches to semi-automatic fire and becomes more accurate.
Those are the confirmed differences. The patch notes don’t give damage or recoil numbers that would establish one mode as better in every fight.
How to switch the Uzi firing mode
Hold the fire-mode button to change the stock configuration. Facepunch describes this directly in the official November patch notes. The gun then uses the firing behaviour of the new stock position.
Your exact key depends on the controls you have set. The official announcement refers to the fire-mode action rather than giving a default key that everyone must use. If you’re playing with a remapped keyboard layout or a controller, check your current bindings for that action.
November also brought Steam Input gamepad support, so the appropriate binding will depend on whether you’re using a keyboard or controller.
When should you use the folded stock?
The folded setup is the one for automatic fire. It is also the only configuration the developer specifically identifies as compatible with shields. That makes it the straightforward choice when you want those two functions together.
Automatic fire can be useful at close range, but there’s no confirmed claim that folding the stock changes bullet damage or improves range.
When should you unfold the stock?
Choose the unfolded configuration when you want semi-automatic shots and the additional accuracy Facepunch lists. Rather than spraying, you control each shot individually. That can suit moments when placement matters more than keeping the trigger held down.
The trade-off is shield use: compatibility is listed for the folded stock, not the unfolded one.
What about damage, ammo, crafting and magazine size?

Facepunch’s November 5 announcement confirms the name, the two stock configurations and how to switch them. It does not give a full weapon stat block covering bullet damage, magazine capacity, recoil values, crafting ingredients or spawn rates.
Don’t borrow stats from another SMG and call them Rust Uzi 9mm stats. Check the current in-game recipe and item details for anything not listed in the patch notes.
Is the Uzi available in Rust Console Edition?
The Printed and Polished announcement is the November 2026 PC Rust update. Console Edition follows a separate update schedule, so this news does not by itself confirm a simultaneous console release.
