BTD6 beginner guide: How to Survive Your First 40 Rounds

BTD6 beginner guide: start on an easy map, place your first tower near a bend and spend your cash on upgrades that actually help. The three rounds to prepare for are 24 for Camo, 28 for Lead and 40 for the first MOAB.

You don’t need an expensive hero or a perfect layout. You do need towers that can hit what the game sends at you. A wall of Dart Monkeys won’t help when the Bloon is invisible to them or immune to their basic darts.

BTD6 beginner guide: Where to put your first towers

On Beginner maps such as Monkey Meadow, place your first tower where the path curves or passes nearby twice. A monkey that covers two stretches has more chances to attack than one watching a short straight. Watch which Bloons escape before spending money on a replacement.

Start with an affordable tower such as a Dart Monkey, then watch where the leaks happen. If one upgraded tower is clearing most of a wave, spend on that tower’s speed or pierce before buying another handful of monkeys that do exactly the same job.

This BTD6 beginner guide approach works without purchased heroes or a fully developed Monkey Knowledge tree. Starting cash, costs and restrictions change with difficulty, so use a fixed build from a video as a suggestion, not a guaranteed solution on every map.

How to pop the round 24 Camo Bloon

Standard round 24 introduces a Camo Green. A tower without Camo detection won’t even target it. The simplest answer is often a Ninja Monkey, which sees Camo naturally. Later you can use supported detection upgrades or a Monkey Village with Radar Scanner to help other nearby towers.

Keep Camo detection separate from popping power. Radar Scanner lets towers in the Village’s range see hidden Bloons, but won’t make their attacks pop Lead. Our Camo guide covers the difference.

BTD6 beginner guide: Getting through Lead on round 28

Lead Bloons arrive on standard round 28. Ordinary sharp darts can’t normally break their metal layer, so add a compatible attack before the round starts. A Bomb Shooter’s explosions are a straightforward answer; certain fire, magic and upgraded attacks can also work, depending on their actual damage type.

A cannon can break ordinary Lead, but a Magic-category tower isn’t automatically a Lead counter. Check what the attack actually does. The Lead guide explains which upgrades work and why Camo Lead needs detection as well.

How to beat the first MOAB on round 40

Your first regular MOAB arrives on round 40. It takes sustained damage to break the outer blimp, and the Bloons inside still need cleaning up afterwards. Before starting the round, check which tower can focus damage on the MOAB and which towers can clear the smaller Bloons it releases.

For this BTD6 beginner guide, don’t save every coin until round 40 and then panic-buy a tower beside the exit. Use the earlier rounds to strengthen your best attacker and give it enough track coverage to damage the MOAB and clear the Bloons released when it breaks.

Why are Bloons getting through despite strong towers?

Not all failures are about raw damage. Black Bloons resist explosive attacks, White Bloons resist freezing and Purple Bloons resist certain energy, fire and plasma damage. A mixed defence gives you another way to attack when one tower’s damage type is countered. You also need enough pierce for groups.

When only one kind of Bloon is escaping, find out why before spending again. The BTD6 beginner guide fix might be Camo detection, a Lead-compatible attack, more pierce or simply a better position. Another tower with the same weakness won’t change the result.

What to do after your first Easy win

Easy ends at round 40. Medium, Hard, Alternate Bloons Rounds and CHIMPS have different rules, so don’t assume this setup will clear them unchanged.

Completing maps also gives you progression rewards. Tower XP unlocks upgrades for individual monkey types, while Monkey Money is an account currency used for heroes and other unlocks. Your in-match cash is different from both. Our tower XP guide explains how to unlock more options.

Before you press Start on a tricky round, ask three questions: can I see Camo, can I pop Lead, and can I damage the MOAB while clearing what comes out of it? That’s the heart of a useful BTD6 beginner guide.
