BTD6 tower XP is earned at the end of each round. If you’re trying to unlock a particular monkey’s upgrades, spend more of your cash on that tower type. XP is shared according to how much you’ve invested in each type, not which monkey has the most pops.
That explains why a Ninja with thousands of pops might gain XP slowly when you’ve spent most of your cash on other monkeys. A good XP run doesn’t require one tower to steal every pop. It requires that tower type to make up most of your investment.
BTD6 tower XP: How experience is divided

At the end of each round, the game divides the tower XP between the types you’ve placed. Spend half your tower budget on Darts and half on Bomb Shooters and they’ll receive roughly equal shares, regardless of which type dealt the final blows. Heroes level separately.
For BTD6 tower XP, ten cheap monkeys aren’t automatically better than two upgraded ones. What matters is the total cash invested in that type. You can still place support towers when you need them, but they will take a share of the XP.
How to farm BTD6 tower XP faster without cheats
Pick an upgrade you want, choose a map you know you can finish, and build mainly with that tower type. It’s fine to use a different monkey for Camo or Lead if you need one. Just avoid splitting your budget across lots of unrelated types.
After you’ve reached the normal victory round, start another match rather than grinding Freeplay indefinitely. XP is reduced in Freeplay and drops further beyond round 100. Regular completed runs are a more reliable way to make progress.
Harder map categories provide a bonus to experience, but there is no point choosing a route you can’t beat. Reliable wins on a manageable map can be more useful than repeated failed Expert attempts. This BTD6 tower XP method is about consistent XP, not a guaranteed one-run unlock.
Does the pop counter affect tower XP?
The pop counter doesn’t decide XP distribution. A tower can handle almost every Bloon and still gain a smaller share if it represents less of your total spending. Use the upgrade costs and your tower mix to understand where the experience is going.
Check your upgrade spending if the XP menu seems stuck. An expensive hero isn’t a shortcut to unlocking fifth-tier upgrades for every normal tower, and your player level is separate from both hero levelling and individual tower XP.
BTD6 tower XP: Unlocking fifth tiers and Paragons
Unlock the earlier tiers in a path before trying to open its fifth tier. Eligible tower types can also unlock a Paragon after meeting the relevant progression requirements, but that doesn’t give you enough in-game cash to buy one automatically.
Unlocking a Paragon on your account and building it during a game are different jobs. The second needs plenty of match cash and follows Paragon creation rules. Our Sniper Paragon guide covers the new Update 57 option.
You shouldn’t assume every Paragon costs the same XP or cash. The live upgrade menu will show the actual requirements for your version. For BTD6 tower XP, completing another normal match focused on the relevant tower can help more than spending a long time in Freeplay.
What if my tower still isn’t gaining enough XP?
First, see whether you’re past the normal end of the mode. Next, compare how much you’ve spent on the chosen monkey type against the rest of your defence. In co-op the available experience is shared between players, so solo progression may feel different even when the same towers are being used.
Also check that you have unlocked the prerequisite upgrades. The XP total alone doesn’t open a later path if an earlier tier remains locked. If you’re just learning to survive those early rounds, the beginner guide explains Camo, Lead and MOAB preparation.
For a practical BTD6 tower XP routine, choose one missing upgrade, spend most of each match’s cash on that type, finish the map and repeat. Switch to another tower once you’ve unlocked what you need.
