Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 gives Xbox players five games to try for free this week, including NBA 2K26, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Sports Renovations and Wax Heads.
The latest Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 lineup began on August 6, although the individual games have different end dates. Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are available completely free for all Xbox members until August 10, while NBA 2K26 becomes free on August 7 and remains available until August 14. Sports Renovations runs from August 6 to August 9 but requires an eligible Xbox Game Pass membership.
Wax Heads is also included in Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 with a two-hour timed trial that is open to all Xbox members.
Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 Games
The current Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 lineup includes five games, but it is important to check the dates and membership requirements for each one.
| Game | Free Period | Game Pass Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Sports Renovations | August 6 to August 9 | Yes |
| Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands | August 6 to August 10 | No |
| Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint | August 6 to August 10 | No |
| NBA 2K26 Standard Edition | August 7 to August 14 | No |
| Wax Heads | Two-hour trial during Free Play Days | No |
Sports Renovations is the only game in this Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 selection that specifically requires Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft states that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members can access the game during its free period.
Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, NBA 2K26 and the Wax Heads trial are available through Free Play Days for All, meaning an Xbox Game Pass subscription is not required to access their current free trial periods.
NBA 2K26 Is Free on Xbox Until August 14
NBA 2K26 is one of the biggest games included in Xbox Free Play Days August 2026, and it has a considerably longer free period than most of the other games.
The NBA 2K26 Standard Edition is available for all Xbox members to try from August 7 until August 14. No Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium or Essential subscription is required to access the free period.
NBA 2K26 includes modes such as MyCAREER, MyTEAM and Play Now. Players on Xbox Series X|S can also access MyNBA, while the Xbox One version features MyLEAGUE.
This makes NBA 2K26 different from the normal weekend-only structure of Xbox Free Play Days August 2026. Instead of ending on August 9 or August 10, the NBA 2K26 free period continues through August 14, giving players a full week to try the game.
Ghost Recon Wildlands Is Free Until August 10
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is also free as part of Xbox Free Play Days August 2026.
Ghost Recon Wildlands can be played for free from August 6 until August 10, and Xbox Game Pass is not required.
The open-world Ubisoft shooter takes players to Bolivia as part of a Ghost team operating against the Santa Blanca cartel. The game can be played solo or as a cooperative tactical shooter.
The current free period also arrives alongside renewed activity for Ghost Recon Wildlands. Xbox is currently highlighting the Last Rites free update, which adds a darker new mission involving La Llorona and takes players through environments including swamps and forests.
Players who have never tried Wildlands therefore have several days to access the game through Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 before the free period ends on August 10.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint Is Also Free
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint has exactly the same Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 dates as Wildlands.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is free for all Xbox members from August 6 until August 10, with no Game Pass membership required.
Breakpoint takes place on the Auroa archipelago, where players take control of a Ghost after Skell Technology loses contact with the outside world. The Wolves, a hostile rogue special operations group, control the island and hunt the player’s team.
Both Ghost Recon games being available simultaneously makes the current Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 event particularly useful for anyone who has been considering trying Ubisoft’s tactical shooter series.
Microsoft was also advertising discounted prices when the event was announced. Ghost Recon Wildlands was listed at $4.99 in the US Xbox Store, down from $49.99, while Ghost Recon Breakpoint was listed at $5.99, down from $59.99. Prices and availability can vary by region and may change after the promotion.
Sports Renovations Is Free With Xbox Game Pass
Sports Renovations is the Game Pass-specific game included in Xbox Free Play Days August 2026.
The game is available from August 6 until August 9 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members.
Sports Renovations is a simulator based around restoring old sporting facilities. Players renovate gyms, courts and pitches while cleaning, painting and redesigning the different locations.
Unlike Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, NBA 2K26 and Wax Heads, Sports Renovations is not listed as part of Free Play Days for All. An eligible Game Pass membership is therefore required to take advantage of this specific Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 offer.
Sports Renovations is optimized for Xbox Series X|S.
Wax Heads Has a Free Two-Hour Trial
Wax Heads rounds out the current Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 lineup, although this is not an unrestricted free weekend.
Instead, all Xbox members can access a two-hour timed trial of Wax Heads during the Free Play Days event.
Wax Heads is a narrative simulation game set inside a struggling record store called Repeater Records. Players work in the store and recommend music to customers while exploring its collection of records and characters.
The game is optimized for Xbox Series X|S and supports Xbox Play Anywhere.
Microsoft listed Wax Heads at $11.99 in the US Xbox Store during the Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 announcement, reduced from its standard $14.99 price. As with the other promotional prices, regional pricing and availability can vary.

Players can access the Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 games through the Microsoft Store or directly from an Xbox console.

| Game | What You Need |

Do You Keep Xbox Free Play Days Games?
Games included in Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 are temporary free-access offers rather than games that are permanently added to your account.
Once the free period for a game ends, players will normally need to purchase the game or have access to it through another valid subscription in order to continue playing.
Progress does not have to be lost, however. Microsoft states that players who purchase a Free Play Days game can continue playing while retaining the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event.
This means players can use Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 to test a game before deciding whether to buy it, rather than starting again if they purchase it later.
When Does Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 End?
There is no single end date for every game in Xbox Free Play Days August 2026.
Sports Renovations has the earliest deadline and is available through August 9. Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint remain free through August 10.
NBA 2K26 has the longest free period and remains available until August 14.
Wax Heads is offered as a two-hour timed trial during the current Free Play Days promotion rather than as an unlimited free game.
For anyone primarily interested in the biggest free games, the important Xbox Free Play Days August 2026 deadlines are August 10 for both Ghost Recon games and August 14 for NBA 2K26.
