Alliance players begin in the Burning Steppes and spend time in Blackrock Depths, while Horde characters start in Kargath and follow a longer route through Thrall, Rexxar and Emberstrife. Both paths end with General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire. Here’s the quest order and what to check before raid night.
WoW Forever Onyxia attunement requirements
Onyxia’s Lair is a level-60 raid for 40 players in Dustwallow Marsh. It opens December 9 alongside the 10-player Barrow Deeps and the 20-player Hyjal Summit raids. Onyxia’s three-phase encounter features powerful fire attacks, so the group will also need suitable gear, consumables and Fire Resistance.

To complete WoW Forever Onyxia attunement, both factions obtain the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire. Alliance raiders first deal with Marshal Windsor in Blackrock Depths; Horde raiders follow Rexxar and Emberstrife’s dragon trials. Check the quest step before each dungeon run so you can collect the item you actually need.
Alliance WoW Forever Onyxia attunement walkthrough
The Alliance WoW Forever Onyxia attunement begins with Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes. Make sure you accept Dragonkin Menace before working through the Blackrock quests, because the later stages introduce Marshal Windsor and send you back to Stormwind.
- Dragonkin Menace: Speak with Helendis Riverhorn and defeat the required black dragonkin in Burning Steppes.
- The True Masters: Complete all six quests investigating the Black Dragonflight and the Blackrock orcs. Eventually, Marshal Maxwell at Morgan’s Vigil sends you to Blackrock Depths.
- Marshal Windsor: Find Windsor or evidence of his fate inside Blackrock Depths. Follow with Abandoned Hope, returning to Marshal Maxwell.
- A Crumpled Up Note: Loot the note from enemies in Blackrock Depths and deliver it to Windsor in his cell.
- A Shred of Hope: Recover Windsor’s information from Golem Lord Argelmach and General Angerforge in Blackrock Depths.
- Jail Break!: Escort Windsor to freedom, then return to Marshal Maxwell.
- Stormwind Rendezvous and The Great Masquerade: Talk to Squire Rowe at the gates of Stormwind to summon Windsor. Follow him into the city and help finish the confrontation. If Windsor doesn’t appear, check with Squire Rowe again.
- The Dragon’s Eye: Take the Fragment of the Dragon’s Eye from Highlord Bolvar Fordragon to Haleh in Mazthoril, Winterspring. Enter the cave and use the teleport runes to reach her.
- Drakefire Amulet: Haleh sends you to collect the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire. Return the blood to Haleh to receive your completed amulet.
Plan for more than one Blackrock Depths run on the Alliance route. Windsor’s note is a separate item drop, while A Shred of Hope requires items from both General Angerforge and Golem Lord Argelmach. Later, the WoW Forever Onyxia attunement quest The Dragon’s Eye takes you to Haleh in Winterspring; that trip is easy to overlook if you head straight back to Blackrock Spire.
Horde WoW Forever Onyxia attunement walkthrough
Horde WoW Forever Onyxia attunement starts with Warlord Goretooth in Kargath, Badlands. The chain travels through Lower Blackrock Spire, Orgrimmar, Desolace, Western Plaguelands and Dustwallow Marsh before the final Upper Blackrock Spire fight.
- Blood and Thunder: Visit Goretooth in Kargath, then complete Warlord’s Command in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- For the Horde!: After meeting Eitrigg and Thrall in Orgrimmar, head into Upper Blackrock Spire to defeat Warchief Rend Blackhand. Take his head back to Thrall. Rend is in the upper section, while the preceding Warlord’s Command objectives take place in Lower Blackrock Spire.
- What the Wind Carries and The Champion of the Horde: Speak with Thrall, then find Rexxar as he travels through Desolace.
- The Testament of Rexxar and Oculus Illusions: Deliver Rexxar’s message to Myranda the Hag in Western Plaguelands and collect Black Dragonspawn Eyes.
- Emberstrife: Use the Amulet of Draconic Subversion to approach the drake in Dustwallow Marsh.
- The Test of Skulls: Defeat Scryer, Somnus, Chronalis and Axtroz through the four assigned dragon challenges.
- Ascension…: Receive the Dull Drakefire Amulet and bring it to Rexxar.
- Blood of the Black Dragon Champion: Defeat General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire, collect the Blood and return to Rexxar for the completed Drakefire Amulet.
The Horde WoW Forever Onyxia attunement route takes you across several zones. Rexxar patrols Desolace instead of waiting at one quest counter, and Emberstrife gives you four separate dragon challenges. Bring help for the tougher steps, particularly if your group wants everyone ready for December 9.
WoW Forever Onyxia attunement: How to get the Drakefire Amulet
General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire is the final dungeon objective for both factions, but you must be on the correct quest before killing him. Alliance characters return the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion to Haleh in Winterspring; Horde characters bring it back to Rexxar in Desolace. That final hand-in awards the Drakefire Amulet and completes the WoW Forever Onyxia attunement chain.
Keep the finished Drakefire Amulet in your bags when you travel to the raid entrance in Dustwallow Marsh. It doesn’t have to occupy your neck equipment slot, so you can wear your usual necklace during the encounter. Everyone in the raid must carry their own amulet.
WoW Forever Onyxia attunement: Why can’t I enter the raid?
If the raid is open and you are level 60, check that the Drakefire Amulet is actually in your bags. A quest still awaiting its final hand-in, an amulet stored elsewhere or a character that has only completed part of the chain can all explain why access remains unavailable.
Every raider needs their own Drakefire Amulet, so check your inventory before heading to Dustwallow Marsh. WoW Forever launches November 4, but Onyxia’s Lair opens December 9; finishing the chain before then won’t open the raid early.
