Steam Achievement Sets are now available in the Steam Client Beta after Valve’s October 15, 2026 announcement. The system separates base-game, downloadable-content and seasonal achievements, so completing the original game doesn’t require buying every expansion and previously earned completion trophies are preserved.
Not every game supports the feature yet. Valve is asking developers to group their own achievements, and players must opt into Steam’s client beta to see the redesigned pages. Games including Portal 2, DREDGE, Team Fortress 2, Forza Horizon 5 and Modern Warfare 4 already support sets.
How to enable Steam Achievement Sets in the Steam Client Beta
On desktop, open Steam → Settings → Interface → Client Beta Participation, select the Steam Beta Update and restart Steam. After the update downloads, open the Library page for a supported game and select its achievements section. You’ll see developer-defined sets rather than one uninterrupted checklist.
The client change doesn’t rewrite achievements in every game. For Steam Achievement Sets to appear, the game’s own developer must add them through Steamworks. If the achievements page still looks ordinary, check the supported-games list before troubleshooting your Steam installation.

What counts as a completed set?
Each Steam Achievement Sets group has its own progress bar. Unlock every achievement in that group and Steam displays a set-complete trophy on your profile. Developers may group them by base game, DLC, class, single-player campaign or multiplayer content, depending on how their games work.
Unlike the previous combined system, adding new achievements later doesn’t automatically strip your earlier completion. Steam remembers the set you finished, while newly added activities can be tracked separately.
Base-game and DLC achievement differences
Steam Achievement Sets colour base-game progress blue. DLC progress appears purple and doesn’t count towards your overall total until you own or can access that DLC. This helps players who want to complete the core game without buying optional expansions, while still showing what they could unlock if they did purchase more content.
| Set type | Colour or status | How completion works |
|---|---|---|
| Base game | Blue | Achievements everyone with the game can earn |
| DLC | Purple | Counts towards your total once you own the add-on |
| Seasonal | Can be archived | Expired unlocks won’t prevent completion for players who missed them |

How to find and compare Steam Achievement Sets
Open the achievements page through your Steam Library or Games List. The redesigned page shows progress for each set, along with individual locked and unlocked achievements. You can search within a particular set and toggle global achievement statistics without opening another page.
Valve also allows comparisons with up to three friends, including completed sets, rare unlocks and DLC progress. Your achievement count may differ from another player’s if you own different add-ons. The old Perfect Games tab has been renamed Completed, and it can show completed sets as well as completed games.
Which games support Steam Achievement Sets?
Valve’s first list includes Against the Storm, Age of Wonders 4, American Truck Simulator, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Crusader Kings III, DREDGE, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Forza Horizon 5, Flock Around, He is Coming, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, PowerWash Simulator, PowerWash Simulator 2, Team Fortress 2 and Victoria 3.
Other games may join as developers add support. A title without sets isn’t necessarily broken: achievements will still unlock normally, but they may not be organised into the new groups until the game’s developer adopts the system.
Do Steam Achievement Sets preserve 100% completion?
Yes. Valve designed the system to prevent new DLC achievements from undoing an already earned base-game completion. If a developer adds more achievements to an existing set, Steam also preserves your set-complete trophy. That lets long-running games add events and expansions without retroactively removing accomplishments.
Developers can archive achievements from retired seasonal events. Players who earned those achievements keep their record, while newcomers aren’t blocked from completion by objectives they can no longer access. That makes the update especially helpful for online games and limited-time events.
When will Steam Achievement Sets release outside beta?
Valve hasn’t announced a stable-client release date. The October 15 rollout covers both players and game developers in the beta, and the company says it will continue improving the feature. You can join through Steam’s settings now or remain on the stable client until the wider release.
For the complete list and official feature explanation, visit Valve’s Steam news page. It’s a client feature, not paid DLC, and joining the beta doesn’t require a separate subscription.
