You can get Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail for free by taking part in the Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix event and winning three main races. The new four-star Hunt Light Cone is one of the headline rewards from Honkai Star Rail Version 4.5, and there is no need to spend Stellar Jade or use any Warps to unlock it.
Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix began alongside Version 4.5 on August 26, 2026 and remains available until September 28, 2026. Players can also earn four Celebration Champagne items to raise Race to the Horizon all the way to Superimposition 5.
How to Get Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail
To get Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail, you need to win three main races during the Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix event.
The Light Cone is tied to your total number of main-race victories rather than completing the entire event. Once you have won three main races, Race to the Horizon becomes available to claim from the event rewards.
The reward milestones are:
| Reward | Main Race Wins Required |
|---|---|
| Race to the Horizon | 3 |
| Celebration Champagne | 5 |
| Celebration Champagne | 8 |
| Celebration Champagne | 11 |
| Celebration Champagne | 14 |
Celebration Champagne is the dedicated Superimposition material for the Light Cone. This means players who reach 14 total main-race victories can obtain Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail and raise it to Superimposition 5 without needing additional copies from a Warp.

How to Unlock Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix
You need to reach Trailblaze Level 21 or higher to participate in Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix.
The event can be accessed early through the Finality’s Vision feature, so you do not necessarily need to have completed all of the latest Astropolis story content before taking part.
For the intended story experience, it is recommended that you first complete the Trailblaze Continuance mission Astropolis – How to Lose Your Way to the Top: The Zero-Dollar Strategy.
Once you have access to the event, you can begin competing in races and working towards the three victories required to unlock Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail.
How Does Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix Work?
Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix is very different from Honkai Star Rail’s usual turn-based combat. Instead, you take control of a racing team, recruit drivers, develop cars and compete against other vehicles.
The event progresses through Race, R&D and Highlight days.
Race days put your vehicle on the track and are the important part if your main goal is unlocking Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail. Winning these races increases the cumulative victory count used for the Light Cone reward milestones.
R&D days allow you to improve your vehicle and select upgrades that can make future races easier, while Highlight days give you an overview of your team’s current position in the competition.
During races, drifting successfully through corners helps maintain speed and build charge. You can also use abilities and interfere with rival racers to improve your chances of finishing first.
Since Race to the Horizon only requires three main-race wins, you can unlock the Light Cone well before completely finishing the event.
What Does Race to the Horizon Do?
Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail is a four-star Light Cone for characters following The Hunt Path.
At Superimposition 1, Race to the Horizon increases the wearer’s ATK by 12%.
After the wearer launches a Follow-Up ATK, their CRIT DMG increases by 3% for two turns. This effect can stack up to 10 times.
That makes the Light Cone particularly suited to Hunt characters capable of triggering Follow-Up ATKs frequently, as repeated attacks can build multiple stacks of the CRIT DMG buff.
The effect becomes stronger as you increase the Light Cone’s Superimposition level. At Superimposition 5, the ATK increase reaches 24%, while each Follow-Up ATK stack provides 5% CRIT DMG.
Getting all four Celebration Champagne rewards from the event therefore makes Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail considerably stronger than simply claiming the initial Light Cone and stopping after three victories.
Overdrive Whirlwind Grand Prix Rewards
Race to the Horizon is not the only reason to complete the Version 4.5 racing event.
Players can earn up to 1,000 Stellar Jade by completing the available event objectives, alongside rewards including a Self-Modeling Resin, Tracks of Destiny, Traveler’s Guides, Refined Aether, Lost Crystals, Credits and other upgrade materials.
The major limited rewards are Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail and its four Celebration Champagne Superimposition materials.
Even after earning the Light Cone from three victories, it is therefore worth continuing through the Grand Prix to collect the remaining rewards.
When Does the Race to the Horizon Event End?
The opportunity to get Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail through Overdrive: Whirlwind Grand Prix ends on September 28, 2026 at 3:59 a.m. UTC+8.
You only need three main-race victories to claim the Light Cone itself, but reaching 14 victories unlocks all four Celebration Champagne materials required to increase it to Superimposition 5.
With the event now live, players can start competing immediately and get Race to the Horizon in Honkai Star Rail completely free as part of Version 4.5.
