Pokémon GO Type Chart: Strengths, Weaknesses and Resistances

Pokémon GO Type Chart

Pokémon GO type chart knowledge is the foundation of good battling because super-effective attacks deal substantially more damage while resisted attacks waste time and energy. Pokémon can also have two types, allowing weaknesses or resistances to combine into a double weakness or double resistance that can completely change the best raid, Gym or PvP counter.

Complete type chart

Use this Pokémon GO type chart as a quick reference for attacking and defending. “Strong against” means the type deals super-effective damage to those targets, while “weak to” lists incoming attack types that deal super-effective damage.

Dual types can create double weaknesses

The Pokémon GO type chart becomes more important when both types share the same weakness. A Rock/Flying Pokémon, for example, can have different defensive behavior from a pure Rock type, while combinations such as Rock/Ground can create especially severe weaknesses to Water or Grass.

Double weaknesses are why some raid bosses are dramatically easier than their tier suggests. Six strong counters using the correct type can outperform a random team with much higher CP.

Immunities work differently in Pokémon GO

Main-series Pokémon games include true type immunities. Pokémon GO converts those relationships into very strong resistances rather than literal zero damage.

That is why the Pokémon GO type chart may describe Normal versus Ghost or Electric versus Ground as heavily resisted interactions instead of attacks doing absolutely nothing.

The practical lesson is the same: avoid those attacks whenever a better neutral or super-effective option exists.

Same-Type Attack Bonus matters

A Pokémon using an attack that matches one of its own types receives Same-Type Attack Bonus, usually shortened to STAB.

The strongest counter is therefore often a Pokémon with both favorable typing and a strong same-type moveset.

Do not use the Pokémon GO type chart only to choose species. Check the Fast and Charged Attacks too, because a perfect counter species with the wrong moves may deal poor damage.

PvP adds another layer

Trainer Battles depend on shields, energy generation, switch timing and coverage moves as well as raw type matchups.

A Pokémon may deliberately carry a Charged Attack that counters one of its normal weaknesses. The Pokémon GO type chart tells you the underlying relationship, but it cannot predict the opponent’s exact moveset.

Learn common coverage attacks before assuming a favorable type matchup is automatically safe.

Best way to memorize the chart

Start with the attacking types you use most: Fighting against Normal and Steel, Ground against Electric and Steel, Ice against Dragon and Flying, and Fairy against Dragon and Dark.

Then learn the weaknesses of common raid bosses and your core PvP team.

How type multipliers stack

Pokémon GO type chart interactions can stack when a dual-type Pokémon shares the same weakness. That is why some bosses take dramatically more damage from one attack type than another.

The same logic works defensively: overlapping resistances can make an attack especially poor. Use the Pokémon GO type chart to identify those double relationships before raids, because they are often the difference between an easy short-man clear and running out of time.

The Pokémon GO type chart is easier to remember through repeated real battles than by memorizing 18 rows at once. Use the reference when needed, build teams around genuine super-effective moves and the relationships quickly become second nature.
