Pokémon GO friendship levels now progress through Friend, Good Friend, Great Friend, Ultra Friend, Best Friend and Forever Friends. Under the normal one-point-per-day system, the important milestones are 1, 7, 30, 90 and 180 friendship points, although newer features such as Weekly Challenges can award more than one friendship point in a single day.

Pokémon GO friendship levels use points rather than a strict calendar-day counter. Most ordinary interactions still award no more than one point with the same friend per day, but Weekly Challenges and certain newer systems can accelerate progress.
How to earn friendship points
Opening a Gift, raiding together, battling together, trading and other eligible interactions can increase Pokémon GO friendship levels. When the daily interaction has counted, a blue ring normally appears around your friend’s avatar.
You do not need to perform every activity in one day. Once the standard daily point has been earned, another Gift or raid generally does not add another ordinary point that day.
Weekly Challenges are the major exception because they can award multiple friendship points.
Good Friend and Great Friend
Good Friend requires 1 friendship point and unlocks Special Trades.
Great Friend needs 7 points. At this Pokémon GO friendship levels milestone you receive a small Stardust discount on qualifying trades, one extra Premier Ball when raiding together and a small shared attack boost.
For two Trainers interacting once per day, Great Friends normally takes about a week.
Ultra Friend
Ultra Friend requires 30 friendship points.
The trade discount becomes much more useful, the raid attack bonus increases and you receive two extra Premier Balls when raiding together.
Pokémon GO friendship levels become especially valuable here because expensive Shiny, Legendary and unregistered trades are dramatically cheaper than they were at Good Friend.
Best Friend
Best Friend requires 90 friendship points.
This milestone gives the traditional large Stardust trade reduction, four extra Premier Balls in shared raids and a large attack boost when battling together.
Best Friends can also become Lucky Friends through later eligible interactions, guaranteeing that the next trade between them produces Lucky Pokémon.
Pokémon GO friendship levels do not drop over time, so reaching Best Friend is permanent unless one Trainer removes the other.
Forever Friends
Forever Friends is the newer sixth milestone and requires 180 friendship points.
It preserves the major Best Friend bonuses, adds a further shared battle boost and unlocks one Remote Trade with that friend.
After using the first Remote Trade, another can be earned by adding 90 more friendship points to the Forever Friend progress bar.
Pokémon GO friendship levels therefore continue to matter even after the old Best Friend endpoint.
Do the days required always match the points?
Not anymore.
If you only earn the standard one interaction point each day, the point requirements are effectively the minimum number of interaction days: 1, 7, 30, 90 and 180.
However, Weekly Challenges can award multiple points and shorten the real calendar time.
That is why Pokémon GO friendship levels are better described by friendship points than by an absolute number of days in 2026.
Friendship XP still matters
Reaching the major friendship milestones also awards substantial Trainer XP, which is why many players coordinate the exact moment Ultra or Best Friend triggers around a Lucky Egg. The newer point-based system does not remove those milestone rewards.
Check the progress indicator before opening the final Gift so both players know when a valuable milestone is about to land.
Best way to level friendship quickly
Coordinate Gift opening so at least one eligible interaction happens every day, raid together when convenient and use Weekly Challenges whenever available.
Do not waste Lucky Eggs solely because an old guide says a milestone must happen on a specific day; check the actual friendship progress shown in-game first.
Pokémon GO friendship levels are now a much longer progression path than they were for years, but the rewards are stronger too. Best Friend remains excellent for raids and cheap trading, while Forever Friends turns a long-term friendship into repeatable Remote Trade access.
