The new Vanny in FNAF has not yet been identified, despite Steel Wool Studios revealing a striking new version of the rabbit character in its mysterious Five Nights at Freddy’s teaser on August 8, 2026.

The teaser briefly reveals Vanny through a series of glitches, with a number 2 also visible within the imagery. Steel Wool has not explained who is underneath the mask, what the number means or even officially named the game being teased.

That leaves one of the biggest questions following the FNAF anniversary reveal unanswered: is the new Vanny in FNAF still Vanessa, or has someone else taken on the rabbit identity?

For now, there is no confirmed answer.

Who Is the New Vanny in FNAF?

The identity of the new Vanny in FNAF is currently unknown.

Steel Wool Studios deliberately showed the character during its August 8 teaser, but the studio did not provide a character biography, story explanation or confirmation of who is behind the rabbit appearance.

The teaser therefore confirms Vanny imagery is involved in Steel Wool’s next FNAF project, but it does not confirm the person beneath the mask.

Is the New Vanny in FNAF Vanessa?

Steel Wool has not confirmed that the new Vanny in FNAF is Vanessa.

Vanessa and Vanny are closely associated with the Security Breach storyline, which is naturally why many players immediately assume the returning character must be Vanessa.

However, the August 8 teaser does not name Vanessa.

It does not show the person beneath the rabbit appearance either.

Security Breach itself follows Gregory as he becomes trapped overnight inside Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex and attempts to uncover its secrets with the help of Glamrock Freddy. Steel Wool continues to describe that setting and story as the foundation of the original game.

The new teaser provides no explanation of how much time has passed since those events or exactly where the new project fits within the wider storyline.

Until Steel Wool explicitly identifies the character, Vanessa returning as Vanny should therefore remain a possibility rather than be treated as confirmed information.

Is Cassie the New Vanny?

There is also no confirmation that Cassie is the new Vanny in FNAF.

Cassie became an important character in Security Breach: Ruin, and the continuing story around the Pizzaplex has inevitably led to theories about how she might feature in future games.

But Steel Wool’s teaser does not mention Cassie.

There is no name, dialogue or other confirmed clue currently identifying the character behind the new Vanny design as Cassie.

For that reason, claims that Cassie has definitely become Vanny go beyond what Steel Wool has actually revealed.

The theory may continue to be discussed until more story information arrives, but it remains a theory.

Why Does the New Vanny Look Different?

The new Vanny in FNAF looks noticeably different from the familiar Security Breach version.

The reconstructed design shows a pale rabbit face with dark and red detailing around the eyes, a much wider smile and a more damaged or uneven overall appearance.

Those differences appear intentional, but Steel Wool has not explained them.

The new appearance could represent a redesign for a new game, changes to the existing costume or an entirely different version of the character.

It could potentially also have a story explanation.

At the moment, however, there is not enough confirmed information to choose between those possibilities.

Does the New Design Prove It Is a Different Vanny?

No.

A redesigned character does not automatically mean a different person is underneath the mask.

Five Nights at Freddy’s characters have appeared in numerous different forms throughout the franchise, and Steel Wool itself has continued developing different FNAF projects following Security Breach, including Help Wanted 2. Steel Wool describes Help Wanted 2 as a sequel to its previous VR title and places players in the role of a new Fazbear employee.

The visual differences in the new Vanny therefore give fans something to investigate, but they do not establish the character’s identity.

Until Steel Wool reveals more, the safest description is simply a new version of Vanny.

What Does the Number 2 Mean?

One of the most important clues surrounding the new Vanny in FNAF is the number 2 hidden within the teaser.

Its appearance has led to widespread expectations that Steel Wool is teasing a sequel.

Because Vanny is strongly connected to Security Breach, the obvious interpretation is Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach 2.

However, Steel Wool has not announced that title.

The studio has not explained whether the number refers to Security Breach, another sequel or something else entirely.

That makes “Security Breach 2” a logical description for discussion of the teaser, but not yet an official game name.

Could There Be More Than One Vanny?

The teaser does not answer whether Vanny is now an identity that could be used by more than one person.

That possibility is one reason the identity question is important.

If Steel Wool simply revealed the familiar character again, players could reasonably expect a direct continuation. The noticeably different appearance instead gives the studio room to take the character in several directions.

It could still be Vanessa.

It could be someone new.

Or the differences could have nothing to do with the identity beneath the costume at all.

Nothing currently released by Steel Wool provides enough evidence to confirm one explanation over another.

What Has Steel Wool Actually Confirmed?

When trying to determine the identity of the new Vanny in FNAF, separating the teaser itself from the theories surrounding it is important.

Steel Wool has released new Vanny imagery.

The teaser contains the number 2.

The character has a noticeably different visual appearance.

Those are the firm pieces of information available from the August 8 reveal.

Steel Wool has not confirmed that Vanessa is beneath the mask, has not named Cassie, has not revealed another character as Vanny and has not provided an official title or release date for the project.

For now, the identity of the new Vanny in FNAF is therefore deliberately being kept secret.

That may change as soon as Steel Wool provides a proper game reveal or story trailer. Until then, the most accurate answer is also the simplest: we know Vanny is back in some form, but we do not yet know who this Vanny is.
