Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels range from 30 on the Combat Knife to 73 on the Signal .50 in the beta, with supported weapons unlocking an Apex Attachment at full progression.

Weapon level counts are not the same across the arsenal. Pistols and specialist weapons have shorter tracks, while several rifles and snipers run well past 60 levels.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels: Shortest weapon progression tracks

Combat Knife has the shortest confirmed beta track at 30 levels, followed by Karit P68 and Sang 9mm at 34 each and PILA at 36. PILA and Combat Knife do not use the normal Gunsmith and Apex path in the beta.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels: Longest weapon progression tracks

Signal .50 has the longest track at 73 levels, KG-7 Vulcan follows at 72, and Kastov 762 reaches 71. M4 and Han 86 both run to 68 levels, while Oris 8.6 also reaches 68.

Why weapon level count matters

A longer track means more time before a supported weapon reaches its Apex reward. That does not automatically make a short track better, because the final Apex effect can be the reason you wanted the weapon in the first place. Level count is most useful when deciding which projects you want to finish first.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels: Weapons with unusual progression

Axion and Sang 9mm are default loadout only in the beta, while WZ.55 Striga is tied to a Campaign mission. The official weapon guide still lists their weapon level counts, but the normal path for levelling and permanently equipping them should be checked again in the retail build.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels: What happens at max weapon level

Supported weapons unlock their Apex Attachment as the final progression reward. Apex Attachments sit outside the standard Gunsmith attachment count, so reaching max level can change the weapon’s behaviour without sacrificing one of the normal attachment slots.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels: Will weapon level caps change at launch?

The figures above are the confirmed beta level counts. Infinity Ward can still adjust progression pacing before October 23, so use them to compare the size of each beta grind rather than treating every number as permanently locked.

Average beta weapon level count

Across the 22 confirmed beta weapons, the average progression track is about 56.5 levels. The primary weapon average is higher because Assault Rifles, Marksman Rifles and Snipers carry some of the longest tracks. That makes the level count useful when deciding whether to chase several Apex rewards or finish a smaller number of weapons properly.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels vs Player Rank

Player Rank and weapon level are separate progressions. Player Rank decides when some guns become available, while weapon level controls the attachment track on the gun itself. M4 therefore needs Rank 9 before its 68 level weapon progression can even begin, while Han 86 can start its 68 levels immediately.

Modern Warfare 4 weapon levels: Level count does not equal weapon strength

A 73 level Signal .50 is not automatically better than a 47 level X-58 Nyx. The number tells you how long the beta progression track is, not the damage tier. A shorter weapon can still have a powerful Apex and a longer weapon can be worth finishing because the base gun already fits your playstyle.
