Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey is a 5.56 Assault Rifle arriving with Season 1 on November 6. The free base weapon unlocks at Battle Pass Tier 16, and Activision confirms a 30-round magazine with an 882 RPM fire rate.
The Cronen Osprey also has a distinctive double-barrel Apex attachment that fires on both trigger pull and release. That is separate from the base rifle and its later Tier 87 blueprint. Here’s how to earn the weapon and what the official specifications tell us ahead of release.
Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey: Tier 16 unlock

The Season 1 Battle Pass uses a linear 100-tier structure. Reach Tier 16 on its free track to unlock the base Cronen Osprey Assault Rifle. Players do not need the 1,100 COD Point premium Battle Pass to earn that base gun.
A separate Cronen Osprey weapon blueprint is listed at Tier 87. It comes much later and isn’t required to equip the rifle. If you want to start levelling the weapon soon after Season 1 begins, concentrate on reaching Tier 16 first.
Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey weapon stats
Activision confirms 70 weapon levels, a 30-round magazine, 90 reserve rounds and a fire rate of 882 rounds per minute. The weapon is chambered in 5.56 and designed to combine an unusually high rifle fire rate with workable handling.
Activision places its fire rate alongside the M4, making it one of the fastest-firing assault rifles in the game. Sustained fire causes the Cronen Osprey to kick up and to the right, so shorter bursts are a useful way to manage the weapon while learning its recoil.
Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey: Cronen Helix Mk II
The Cronen Helix Mk. II Apex Attachment adds a double-barrel receiver with a distinctive input pattern. It fires on both pressing and releasing the trigger, creating rapid semi-automatic shots instead of relying on the standard automatic firing behaviour.
Activision has described how it fires but has not announced an exact Apex unlock level in the October season roadmap. The Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey at Tier 16 is the base rifle. The Helix conversion is earned through its separate attachment progression.
All supported attachment categories
The official Gunsmith categories include Optic, Muzzle, Barrel, Underbarrel, Magazine, Rear Grip, Stock, Laser and Ammunition. The source lists Magazine twice, but the rifle still uses the normal Gunsmith attachment categories.
The Cronen Osprey pulls upwards and right during sustained fire. Start by testing how well you can keep a burst on target, then adjust the muzzle, stock or rear grip in Gunsmith to suit that recoil pattern.
Cronen Osprey versus CSG-35
The CSG-35 SMG is another free Season 1 gun, but it fires at 1,200 RPM with a 28-round magazine and is particularly suited to combat within 20 metres.
The Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey is an Assault Rifle with 882 RPM and 30 rounds. It unlocks earlier at Tier 16, versus Tier 36 for the CSG-35. Neither requires premium Battle Pass ownership, although premium tiers contain other rewards.
When does Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey release?
The rifle arrives when Season 1 starts at 5 AM GMT on Friday, November 6, 2026. Its Battle Pass unlock is not available through the earlier Halloween playlists, and the Tier 87 blueprint belongs to the same new seasonal track.
For the standard pass price, free tiers and catch-up rules, visit our Season 1 Battle Pass guide. The Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey is a confirmed free base weapon; its blueprint and Helix conversion are separate choices as you progress.
Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey: unlock checklist
Once Season 1 opens, the Modern Warfare 4 Cronen Osprey is available at free Tier 16. The gun’s separate Tier 87 blueprint is not necessary to start using it. If you’re deciding between the two new launch weapons, the Cronen Osprey arrives earlier in the pass than the CSG-35 SMG, which first appears at Tier 36.
The official 882 RPM rate of fire and upward-right recoil are a useful starting point when you first equip the rifle. If you’re interested in the Cronen Helix Mk. II, remember that its pull-and-release double-barrel behaviour is different from the ordinary firing pattern. Its exact progression requirement should come from the live Apex slot, not the Battle Pass blueprint tier.
