Mega Energy is the form of currency used in Pokemon Go to use Mega Evolutions for battles and raids, so how do you get it?

It turns out the answer is pretty simple, but earning some might not be.

What is Mega Energy in Pokemon Go?

To get us started, let’s just quickly address what Mega Energy is – it’s a consumable, similar to Candy.

And just like Candy, it’ll almost always be Pokemon-specific. So if you wanted Mega Blastoise, you need Blastoise Mega energy. Not every Pokemon has a mega form right now, so make sure that you’re chasing a mega that actually exists first.

We actually have lists for unreleased mega forms and the mega forms that haven’t been added to the game at all yet, so be sure to check in on those if you want a specific Mega Pokemon.

How to get Mega Energy in Pokemon Go

Now on to our main topic, how to actually get Mega Energy in Pokemon Go.

You can earn Mega Energy through Mega Raids, which are a special raid battle tier. Alternatively, you can earn the Mega energy through completing Special research tasks.

Buddy Pokemon can also earn small amounts of Mega Energy if they are part of the Pokemon family of a Pokemon you have mega evolved previously. A Charmander could earn Mega Energy while set as your buddy provided you’ve used a form of Mega Charizard before, for example.

It’s also worth noting that Mega evolving the same Pokemon a second time till cost a lesser amount – a bonus that is retained if you trade that Pokemon away.

Is there anything else?

That’s about it for this question, there aren’t many ways to actually earn Mega energy unfortunately, Pokemon Go is quite stingy with it.

It does become easier to hang on to after the first Mega evolution though, given the reduced costs of Mega evolving from that point onwards.
