The Gear Pokemon Klink is a bit of an unusual one, but what is its weakness? How can you manage to counter Klink in Pokemon Go?

Klink has been appearing in raids fairly frequently during 2021 thus far, so knowing the weakness of this Gear Pokemon might just mean getting a fair few easier raid experiences in on Pokemon Go for you.

What is the weakness and counter of Klink in Pokemon Go?

The biggest counter of Klink in Pokemon Go will be Ground-Type Pokemon, they benefit from targeting a Type weakness and thus dealing Super-Effective damage easily but also have the huge benefit of being totally immune to 4 out of Klinks 5 total attacks, which is arguably even more beneficial than the Type-advantage.

If you don’t have access to any Ground-Types that are battle-ready, Fire-Types and Fighting-Types will do the same amount of damage, but they will get hit back.

How did we find the most reliable counter?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual Pokemon in question, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these factors to exploit in battle is often the Pokemon’s Type.

Klink is a pure Steel-Type Pokemon, so everything you know about Steel-Types applies to this little floating Gear Pokemon. Unfortunately, that happens to mean quite a lot of Type Resistances.

Klink Type Interactions in Pokemon Go

Resistances
  • Bug
  • Dragon
  • Fairy
  • Flying
  • Grass
  • Ice
  • Normal
  • Psychic
  • Rock
  • Steel
  • Poison

Steel-Types resist about half the game, as per usual. Most of these types will deal 62.5% of their usual damage, though Poison-Types are double resisted and will deal only a measly 39% instead.

Weaknesses
  • Fighting
  • Fire
  • Ground

Fighting, Fire and Ground-Types will all deal 160% of their usual damage against Klink due to its Steel-Typing. It’s time to look into Klinks move pool to find out what our best approach is.

What moves does Klink use in battle?

Fast Attacks
  • Charge Beam (Electric)
  • Volt Switch (Electric)
Charged Attacks
  • Discharge (Electric)
  • Vise Grip (Normal)
  • Zap Cannon (Electric)

As the majority of these moves are Electric-Type, let’s focus on finding a good matchup for that.

Fighting-Types and Fire-Types do not gain or lose anything extra against Electric-Type moves, they simply take the standard 100% damage. Ground-Types however… let’s say they’ll really rock this matchup.

Why you may be wondering? Ground-Types have total immunity to Electric-Type attacks. That means Klink can only harm them with Vise Grip, and only Vise Grip.

Klink weakness and counters Summary

In summary, you should try to use a pure Ground-Type Pokemon, as they will have great options for damaging Klink while simultaneously ignoring almost all of Klinks attacks entirely, Fire-Types and Fighting-Types do work against Klink for damage, but there is simply no reason to pick those instead of a Ground-Type given how huge the Ground-Type advantage here is.

So in short, go Ground-Types all the way for this one.
