Pokemon Go: How to defeat Porygon2, weakness & counters

Porygon2 in a Pokemon Movie

The ever-unusual Pokemon Porygon2 has been appearing throughout Pokemon Go, but what is its weakness? How do you counter the Virtual Pokemon?

Porygon2 is a bit of an unusual Pokemon, so it’s quite understandable that some players might not know to deal with the oddball Virtual Pokemon when they make an appearance. This guide is here to help Pokemon Go players learn about, and correctly counter and exploit the weakness of, Porygon2.

What is the weakness and counter of Porygon2 in Pokemon Go?

This only is actually an extremely simple answer for once. Porygon2 is weak to Fighting-Types only, so stick to using them. Everything else will deal normal damage, except for Ghost-Types, who should be avoided as they’ll only deal a measly 39% of their usual damage against Porygon2.

That’s really it, Normal-Types aren’t too complex to deal with.

How did we find the most reliable counter?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual Pokemon in question, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these factors to exploit in battle is often the Pokemon’s Type.

Porygon2 is a pure Normal-Type, which makes this a very easy question to answer, as mentioned above.

Porygon2 Type Interactions in Pokemon Go

In short, Normal-Types resist Ghost-Type moves significantly and are vulnerable to Fighting-Type attacks. There really isn’t much else to know here.

I’ll cover what attacks Porygon2 can use in battle anyway just to be safe, but Fighting-Type is regardless going to be your best option.

What moves does Porygon2 use in battle?

Fast Attacks
  • Charge Beam (Electric)
  • Hidden Power (Normal)
  • Lock-On (Normal)
Charged Attacks
  • Hyper Beam (Normal)
  • Solar Beam (Grass)
  • Tri Attack (Normal)
  • Zap Cannon (Electric)

There’s nothing in either set of moves that should be concerning to anyone employing a Fighting-Type as recommended, so no need to worry here either.

Porygon2 weakness and counters Summary

Porygon2 is a pure Normal-Type, so stick with a strong Fighting-Type and you should have a pretty easy time against it. If you don’t have access to any good Fighting-Types, the best thing you can do is avoid using Ghost-Types at all, as they’ll do massively reduced damage.
