Minecraft Minecoins cross platform rules change on October 27, 2026. Minecoins owned before that date keep cross-platform compatibility through the Legacy Wallet, but new Minecoins purchased on Nintendo become restricted to Nintendo systems.

The reverse restriction also applies: Minecoins bought on another device after October 27 cannot be used for Minecraft Marketplace purchases on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2.

How Minecraft Minecoins cross platform works after October 27

Where the Minecoins came fromNintendo use after October 27
Owned before October 27Yes, through the Legacy Wallet on compatible platforms
Bought on Switch or Switch 2 after October 27Yes, on Nintendo systems
Bought on a non-Nintendo device after October 27No, not for Nintendo Marketplace purchases

The key change for Minecraft Minecoins cross platform is purchase date and platform. Older balances stay flexible, while new purchases are separated around Nintendo.

Can Nintendo Minecoins be used on Xbox or PC?

Minecoins bought on Nintendo after the change no longer behave as fully Minecraft Minecoins cross platform currency. Mojang says they are available to use only on Nintendo systems.

If you normally buy currency on Switch and shop on another device, that workflow will not apply to new Nintendo purchases after October 27.

Can Xbox or PC Minecoins be used on Switch?

New Minecoins bought on another device also lose the old Minecraft Minecoins cross platform freedom when it comes to Nintendo.

From October 27 onward, those newly purchased non-Nintendo Minecoins cannot be used for Marketplace purchases on Switch or Switch 2.

What about Minecoins you already own?

Existing balances are the exception to the new Minecraft Minecoins cross platform limits. Minecoins owned before October 27 move into the Legacy Wallet.

They continue to work across compatible platforms and do not expire. Our Minecraft Legacy Wallet guide explains how that protected balance is spent.

Does the change remove Marketplace purchases?

The announced Minecraft Minecoins cross platform change is specifically about where Minecoins can be spent. Mojang’s September announcement does not say that already-owned Marketplace content is being removed by this currency split.

A wallet restriction should not be confused with a statement that every previous Marketplace entitlement is being revoked.

What about Minecoin gift cards?

Retail cards now need extra attention because Minecraft Minecoins cross platform support can depend on the platforms printed on the card.

Mojang warns that newer cards may no longer support Nintendo devices. Our Minecraft Minecoin cards Nintendo guide covers that check before purchase or redemption.

Why Switch 2 players should care

The Minecraft Minecoins cross platform change starts on the same day as the native Switch 2 edition.

If you are upgrading on October 27, read the Minecraft Switch 2 release date guide alongside the Minecoin Nintendo changes page so the game upgrade and wallet change do not get mixed together.

Minecraft Minecoins cross platform purchases now have separate spending pools. Minecoins bought on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 after October 27, 2026 must be spent within Nintendo’s ecosystem. New currency purchased on Xbox, PlayStation or PC cannot be used in Nintendo Marketplace.

Older Minecoins are different. Mojang moved balances owned before October 27 to a Legacy Wallet. Those Minecoins remain usable across compatible platforms, do not expire and are spent first, ahead of newer platform-restricted currency. You do not need to buy new Minecoins just because you upgraded to Switch 2.

The Minecraft Minecoins cross platform change does not prevent Switch and Switch 2 players from playing Minecraft. It controls where newly bought currency can be spent. Minecoins included with the Switch 2 Deluxe Collection (700) and Ultimate Collection (1,000) are for Nintendo use, not a transferable balance for another console.

If the balance on Switch 2 looks unexpected, check that Minecraft is signed into the same Microsoft account, then distinguish your Legacy Wallet from your Nintendo-only balance. Also inspect the platforms listed on any Minecoin gift card, since Mojang warns newer retail cards may exclude Nintendo devices.

Official cross-platform Minecoin rules

Mojang’s official Nintendo Minecoin article is the first-party source for the new cross-platform Minecoin use limits.

For purchases after October 27, treat Nintendo Minecoins and non-Nintendo Minecoins as separate spending pools. Only the protected Legacy Wallet keeps the older compatibility.
