In a surprise tweet, the official NieR Series twitter account announced that there is an update patch in development for the Steam version of NieR:Automata.

NieR:Automata is a critically acclaimed action role-playing game developed by Platinum Games and published by Square Enix. It serves as a sequel to NieR Gestalt/Replicant, which itself is a spin-off sequel to the Drakengard series.

NieR:Automata’s Steam port has been the topic of discussion for a long time, with players reporting seemingly unplayable instances in the game even with systems that surpassed the hardware requirements. A fan-made patch addressed this issue, along with another critical resolution setting issue.

Recently, the “Become As Gods” edition of the game was released on March 18, 2021 on the Windows store via the Xbox Game Pass, which featured several improvements not present in the Steam version of the game.

Naturally, this led to fan outrage and severe backlash, leading to the game being review bombed on Steam. Where the overall reviews are “Very Positive”, the recent reviews have plummeted to “Mostly Negative”.

The reviews are a result of angered fans who feel cheated out of a better version of the game that the developers and publishers are clearly capable of releasing. Most of the negative reviews demand a better version of the game akin to the one released on the Microsoft Store.

It seems as if the pleas did not fall on deaf ears as less than a month after the launch of the Microsoft Store version of the game, the developers have announced a patch for the Steam version.

The tweet went as follows.

“An upgrade patch for the Steam version of #NieR:Automata is currently in development.

We’ll have more information to share with you on a later date.”

Whether or not this patch will fix all the critical issues in the game remains to be seen.

In addition to the announcement of the NieR Automata update patch, April also marks the release month for a remake of the original NieR game, NieR Replicant.

Dubbed “NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…”, the game is said to be a remake of the Replicant version of the game, which was only released in Japan.

The Xbox version of the game, NieR Gestalt, was the only version that was localized for the western audience. The main differences between the games remains to be the protagonist and the relationship they have with a certain character.

NieR Replicant has the younger version of NieR who is trying to rescue his sister Yonah, whereas NieR Gestalt has the older, “father” version of NieR to whom Yonah is a daughter.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… is slated to release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 23, 2021.
