Tower of Fantasy Gacha System: How to get new characters

Tower of Fantasy - characters

The highly anticipated anime-style action role-playing game, Tower of Fantasy, is finally live globally. It takes us to a vibrant open world set in a post-apocalyptic future. Released on August 10th, 2022, players initially get to play as the Wanderer, an adventurer at a time when the Earth’s resources have already dwindled, and humans have been forced to migrate to a distant planet called Aida.

If you have played Genshin Impact, you will notice that the two games have similarities. From the visuals to some mechanics, Tower of Fantasy is one game that has been compared to Genshin Impact even before its global release.

You can choose between the male and female protagonists at the beginning of both games. And while you’re the Traveler in Genshin Impact, you’re the Wanderer in Tower of Fantasy.

Moreover, there are a lot of interesting characters that you’ll get to meet in both games. And how do you get new characters in Tower of Fantasy? You probably already know. The game also has the gacha system, and here’s how it works.

What is gacha?

If you’re new to the gacha system, it’s basically a mechanic where you have to try to pull for prizes (i.e. characters, weapons, items) by spending some in-game currency. This currency can be gained through gameplay or purchased using real money.

In most cases, like in Genshin Impact, gacha has a pity system where the game gives you a better prize upon reaching a certain number of rolls. For instance, Genshin Impact gives you a guaranteed 4-star character or 4-star weapon after 10 wishes.

The system originated from the gashapon or gachapon, a coin-operated vending machine created in Japan in the 1960s. The terms are also used to call the random small toy capsules you can obtain from them.

Since then, the machine has gained popularity and has been incorporated in video games in the 21st century. While it has been adapted digitally, this kind of machine still exists to this day.

How do I get new characters in Tower of Fantasy?

Gacha rolls in Tower of Fantasy are called Special Orders. This system can be unlocked after completing the main story quest called Ecological Station Intruders.

If you haven’t played Tower of Fantasy yet, this mission comes early in the game, so it won’t be long until you can try your luck on Special Orders. Moreover, the game will reward you with your first roll after completing the mission. This will give you the experience of how the game’s gacha system works and should reward you with the SR-tier character Echo and her weapon.

If you’re a Genshin Impact player, you should know that your first 10 wishes in the Beginner’s Wish Banner will give you the 4-star Geo character Noelle.

Hmmm… the experience is pretty similar so far. However, the good thing about Tower of Fantasy is that the game’s gacha currency is relatively easier to obtain. The game even tracks your Special Order progress for you to know exactly when a character is guaranteed to drop.

It is also important to note that the weapons you can get are ranked in three tiers. These are the R Weapons, SR Weapons, and SSR Weapons. Moreover, obtaining a weapon means obtaining the character that comes along with it. For instance, getting the Thunderous Halberd will also get Echo.

However, that does not apply to the R Weapons, as these are only standard items. Therefore, just get your hands on SR and SSR Weapons, and you can get new characters, too!

How do I place a Special Order in Tower of Fantasy?

There are various “banners” in Towers of Fantasy. If you don’t know what “banners” are, they are the different gachas which you can roll and get different prizes from. That might sound a little confusing, so think of it this way: There are different gachapons or vending machines with different featured prizes. Therefore, depending on which featured prize you want, you can use your gacha currency on that specific machine.

The gacha currency you must use to place Special Orders from these banners is color-coded. Each banner has one specific currency assigned to it. These are the following:

  • Red Nuclei are used to pull from limited-time banners. You have a chance to obtain the featured SSR Weapon (and the character) this way.
  • Gold Nuclei are used in the standard banner or the banner that is permanently available. This also contains SSR Weapons.
  • Black Nuclei are used in the second permanent banner. This contains SR Weapons which are more common.

If you’re wondering how to obtain these currencies, you might want to check our Nucleus Guide here.

To place a Special Order, simply do the following:

  1. Press the Escape button or click the Menu button in the screen’s upper right corner.
  2. Go to Special Orders.
  3. Choose the banner that you want.
  4. Click Order x1 or Order x10.

You can choose to use one (1) or ten (10) of these nuclei to roll at a time. Also, to check your chances of getting characters, you can click on More Info in each banner.

While the chances are not high, the game also has the pity system we discussed earlier (only applicable by using Red and Gold Nuclei). With this, you can get a guaranteed SR or SSR Weapon after 10 rolls. After the 80th roll in a particular banner type, it is guaranteed for you to get an SSR Weapon.
