Gems can be hard to come by after the original surge of them, so here’s what to buy first in Master Duel using your hard-gotten gems.

What to buy first in Master Duel

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has had a pretty successful time since its launch, thanks in part to its generous gem handouts at the very beginning of the game. With that said, after the initial generosity dries up, gems can be slow to earn.

That makes what you spend them on at first quite important. Unfortunately many players, particularly those returning to Yu-Gi-Oh for the first time in a while are unlikely to be the best informed. This means they don’t know what to buy first in Master Duel, resulting in them wasting many of these gems on cards and other items that might not actually be that useful to them.

So what should you buy first in Master Duel?

One of the best deals available in Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel is the bundle deals under the special tab in the store. Each of these offers 10 booster packs of randomised cards spanning across all other packs in the game, and one certain card as a bonus. This comes at the cost of 750 gems, which is also cheaper than the usual price of 10 boosters for 1000 total.

This means that not only are they a cheap way to buy some boosters at the start, but they also feature very useful cards as a fixed reward on top of them. Among these fixed rewards are Solemn Judgment, Lightning Storm and Ash Blossom, cards that will come highly recommended for many different decks.

As such, burning potentially 3k gems here at once will net you at least 3 highly useful cards, and 4000 gems worth of boosters. It’s a pretty great deal, and you should try to buy all of these sooner or later.

Another good investment early on is the Duel Pass (Gold) upgrade. While the rewards are not hugely generous from the Duel Pass, it contains enough gems when completed to buy itself again in the future. This effectively means if you know you’ll play enough to max it out over the next few months that the Duel pass will just be a source of free crafting materials for you, among various other cosmetic rewards.

The Duel Pass (Gold) upgrade can be bought at any point and will grant rewards from previously completed tiers on the Duel Pass.

If you still have Gems after those, you might want to browse the Structured Decks available, as well as the Secret Pack section. Buying the mixed boosters in the special offers bundle section previously will likely have found you many of these secret packs via drawing cards from them. If any of them have a theme you like, Secret packs will grant 4 random cards and 4 themed cards per pack, enabling you to start building towards a specific theme early on.

After flicking through these options if you still have gems to spare you might want to start picking things out for yourself. The Duel Pass and Bundle deals are great ways to start off, and a good answer to what to buy first in Master Duel given they provide long-term value, but you can’t build a themed deck around them unless you get very lucky with your randomised booster packs.

That’s it for this quick tip on what to buy first in Master Duel. Hopefully, it’ll help you out in your duelling career.
