In Chapter II, Act III: Omnipresence Over Mortals, it can be recalled that the quest-exclusive NPC Teppei died due to the life-draining effects of a Fatui Delusion. And it is easily one of the saddest moments in Genshin Impact

In the recent Genshin Impact 2.6 Version, players have again encountered a tear-jerking scene where yet another quest-exclusive NPC dies.

The NPC’s name is Halfdan, who used to be one of the elites in the Khaenri’ah’s Royal Guards.

During the Cataclysm, Captain Dainsleif, the Twilight Sword, gave Halfdan an order to protect the Khaenri’ah people at all costs. However, Halfdan was afflicted by the curse and became one of the Shadowy Husks as a Black Serpent Knight: Windcutter. And not only that, the people he swore to protect also turned into hilichurls.

But even then, Halfdan still remembered his orders and remained loyal to the Khaenri’ah people, who were now hilichurls. In fact, he would bring injured hilichurls to The Chasm to protect them.

At one point, Halfdan ran into Dainsleif, the Traveler (you), and Paimon as the trio investigated the Abyss Order’s plans. After defeating some Shadowy Husks who were guarding the hilichurls, Halfdan ordered them to a ceasefire and showed the trio around the area.

It turned out that the Abyss Order was planning to remove the curse by using an amplification device on the water pool found in the ruins. However, as they began with the process, it did not turn out well and even made Halfdan and the others suffer.

But despite the suffering, in an unexpected turn of events, Halfdan ran towards the amplification device to stop it, costing him his own life

After that, Halfdan reappeared as a spirit before Captain Dainsleif, apologized, and said that he failed to protect the Khaenri’ah people.

However, Captain Dainsleif assured Halfdan that the latter faithfully did his duty and that the captain was proud of them all. Moreover, Captain Dainsleif assured him with what appeared to be a half-lie considering what happened, that Khaenri’ah didn’t fall at all.

After this, Halfdan’s spirit vanished into thin air.
