After having become the absolute definition of suffering from success, Final Fantasy XIV will finally resume its sales, which have been halted since the release of the Endwalker expansion, when the game received a huge influx of players.

This resulted in enormous queue times, especially during peak times, leading to the harsh decision to stop selling the game until they slowed down. And now, a month later, while big queue times are still a thing, they are not as big as they were, giving the green light for the game to resume its sales.

Players will not be able to buy the game again, but will also enjoy the release of the new Oceania Datacenter, which should help relieve the queues. Server transfers will also resume, as they have been locked since the decision to stop the sales was made.

Naoki Yoshida, Producer, and Director of Final Fantasy XIV informed players through a new post in the Lodestone forums that while some Worlds are still facing congestion, the three main factors for the game to resume its sales were fulfilled:

Opening of the Oceanian Data Center, and the capacity to accommodate additional players.

Our desire to provide a suitable environment for new players in the Oceania region.

The play time and log in frequency of current players is steadily returning to normal levels.

Sales will resume starting January 25, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. (JST). Players who were still in the Free Trial will be able to upgrade their game to the base A Realm Reborn version or to the full Endwalker expansion.

Server transfers will be available a little bit later, starting January 26, 2022 (JST). This decision was made to ensure the stability of the new Oceania Datacenter, which will also be released. Players will be able to transfer to any World, and not only to the new ones.

Revealed back in 2021 alongside the current expansion, the Oceania Datacenter will be released on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 (JST). Players will be able to transfer to Oceania with no charge for a limited time and may receive extra rewards for playing on a Preferred World.

Yoshida also revealed future plans for expanding the already existing North American, European, and Japanese Datacenters, which should be happening later this year. The global semiconductor chips shortage is responsible for the delay in these actions.

And on the last point, Yoshida also announced that the Datacenter Travel System will also be pushed to a 6.1x patch, following the current congestion of the servers.
