Final Fantasy XIV is giving players extra subscription days

Due to its absolute success with the release of the Endwalker expansion, Final Fantasy XIV has struggled with enormous queue times and is giving its players extra subscription days to compensate for their troubles.

Since the expansion dropped, players have faced congested queues that may take you at least 3 hours waiting for a chance to enjoy the new content. At least if you were one of the lucky ones to not be randomly kicked from it thanks to the dreaded Error 2002.

That’s a result of the sudden increase in popularity the game received with this new update. And 2 weeks into the expansion, we still see the same amount of players dedicating their time to the queues. But happily, Square Enix is trying to address the problems.

Compensating XIV players with extra subscription days

In the most recent announcement, Naoki Yoshida, Producer, and Director of Final Fantasy XIV has announced that, in addition to the previous 7 days of game time that were given out to the players, they’ll be granting an extra 14 days of subscription, in a total of 21 free days.

To be eligible to receive this compensation, the player must have an active subscription as of Tuesday, December 21, at 12:00 a.m (PDT), the release date of the 6.01 version, the first big Endwalker update. Players must also have a key for the full version of the game activated.

Also, Square has decided to take extreme measures, going as far as temporarily suspending the sales of the full version of the game, as there’s literally no space for new players. New Free Trial registrations are also blocked, and the current Trial players are not allowed to log in during congested hours.

Square has tried to add new Worlds and Datacenters in order to solve some of these problems, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused a shortage of semiconductor chips in the whole world, acquiring new servers has been a long, tedious work.

There is currently no release date for any of these new servers, which should alleviate the biggest queues. On the other side, problems such as the Error 2002 are being addressed during the next big update. For more details, click here.
