Final Fantasy XIV: How to exchange your old tomestones

Many Final Fantasy XIV players, being them newbies, veterans or returning, may encounter some problems finding a use for their old tomestones. With the arrival of the Endwalker expansion, many of their old coins are now obsolete, and new tomestones were introduced, leaving players wondering if and how they can exchange old tomestones.

But fear not, as your previous efforts were not wasted! All of your old tomestones, being them Allegory or Revelation, can be exchanged for the all-rounder good and old Allagan Tomestones of Poetics. You didn’t cap them for nothing.

How to exchange old tomestones

Whenever a new expansion arrives, the previous tomestones are not immediately deleted, but they are separated into a “discontinued” section on your Currency menu. You can check how many of them you still have, but you cannot spend them to buy the usual stuff.

To avoid letting them go to waste, Square Enix allows players to exchange them for the Poetics tomestones, which are always useful to level new jobs, create relic weapons or simply obtain some fancy glamours or crafting materials.

In order to do this, head to Mor Dhona and talk with Auriana at (X22.7, Y6.7). Select “Exchange Previous Tomestones”, being it either Allegory or Revelation and that’s it. All of your held tomestones of the selected type will be automatically exchanged for Poetics.

Note that you’re not exchanging 1 for 1, but 2 for 1. So the maximum tomestones you can obtain for exchanging the cap of any of the old tomestones (Allegory or Revelation) is 1000 Poetics. 

Also, note that you cannot hold more than 2000 Poetics. So if you’re nearing the cap, consider spending them before going for the exchange. Poetics are sometimes hard to earn but are very easy to spend (just like your salary).

If you’re into crafting or gathering, you might’ve been going through a similar situation with your Yellow and White Scripts. White scripts now work as the “previous expansions” scripts, and the new Purple Scripts were added to obtain the current gear.

You can exchange your old Yellow Scripts for White ones also at Mor Dhona, at the Scrip Exchange NPC in (X22.4, Y6.7). The same rules 2:1 rules apply here.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently in its Endwalker expansion, which brought many new dungeons, trials and enemies. The Male Viera race is now playable, as well as the new jobs Reaper and Sage. Previous jobs also received updates, as well as many other aspects of the game.
