Final Fantasy XIV: Pre-Endwalker Live Letter announcements

xiv live letter featured

While the delay for Endwalker was very harsh to accept, the most recent Live Letter also brought a lot of awesome announcements for the future of Final Fantasy XIV. It included exclusive information about some of the new areas, systems, raids, and much more.

The last Live Letter brought us the most important changes to the battle jobs, so while we got some little extra info on them, they weren’t the focus this time. We also got to see the final trailer before the expansion’s official release.

All of the Final Fantasy XIV Live Letter announcements

After the whole trailer, which showcased some of the key moments in the final act of the Zodiark arc as well as some of the enemies we’ll face along the way, we got to see more images about the newly accessible areas, like Old Sharlayan, Thavnair and even the empire of Garlemald.

Then, the focus went to the main characters, which included a small bio for each of them. A new character stole the scene: The Lady of the Light.

Her looks, her description, her appearance in the trailer holding what seems to be an Ascian mask and everything else about this girl screams that she’s Hydaelyn herself, or at least has a deep connection to her.

Next, we got some info on job progression. The new approach for Job Quests in Shadowbringers was the Role Quests, and the same will be applied for Endwalker. But this time, we have 5 quests instead of 4, since Physical DPS are now separated into melee and ranged.

The biggest take from the live is that you don’t need to complete your Role Quest in order to progress in the MSQ anymore.

Crafters will also receive new activities, and a similar system to the Crystarium Deliveries will be introduced, so there’s a new way to quickly level some of them and make easy Gil at the beginning of the Expansion.

Dungeons, Raids and Trials

New images were revealed for the story Dungeons, but nothing was shown for Trials in order to avoid spoilers. However, as she was previously announced, we know that Anima, originally a summon from FFX, will be present as a Trial somewhere in the story.

We even got to see her using her signature attack, Oblivion, in the Launch Trailer. The player seems to be locked while she does her (unnecessarily long) animation, so there’s probably a transition point in the fight.

But most importantly, we finally got the first images about the new raid: Pandaemonium. The Asphodelos (also called Limbo) will be released in the first small patch, while the Savage difficulty will be only available in the second one.

PvP and Gatherers updates

A new mode for PvP will be released, the Crystal Conflict, which will substitute The Feast as the team PvP. This new 5×5 mode will be added at patch 6.1, and The Feast will be removed at the same time. Balance and system updates are also expected for PvP in order to bring a wider audience.

Gatherers will also receive their so-required love. The removal of HQ items, which was announced back in September, will not negatively affect their actions, as they’ll be updated to reflect the change.

Equipments

The Live Letter showed us some of the first Final Fantasy XIV sets to arrive in the 6.0 patch. Since Endwalker takes some big inspiration from Final Fantasy IV, nothing fairer than having FFIV themed gearsets for the first part of the expansion. Here’s the new tank set, just as an example.

Some of the new clothes available for purchase in the Mog Station were also shown, such as the Omega F/M sets.

Housing

The announced Lottery system for purchasing a house had some new details revealed. In a quick resume, vacant houses will have it available, and people can enter the lottery with a few restrictions.

When someone wins the lottery, that player needs to claim the house in a certain period of time, or else it’ll go back to the lottery. Losers will always receive back their full money, but if you didn’t claim your house in time, you’ll only get back 50% of the amount spent.

Systems and more

The new Oceania Datacenter was officially named. The Materia Datacenter is expected to be open in February 2022, and players will be able to, for a limited amount of time, transfer their characters to its Worlds for free.

Female Vieras will receive new hair options with the arrival of Endwalker. Since Hrothgars have a far more complex appearance system, they’ll take a little longer to complete, expected to be done at 6.1. Male Vieras won’t have any of these problems.

New Tomestones and Scrips will be added in order to reflect the new phase of the game. The ones we have right now will be turned into Allegory when the patch arrives, and all of the current lv 80 gear will be available for purchase using them.

Here’s the final schedule for the main releases.

In the end, the Live Letter was great for Final Fantasy XIV. Even with the sudden delay, what we’ve seen until here shows that it’ll payout in the end. Cyberpunk 2077 still hurts a lot, but that shouldn’t be the base example for those cases, right?
