In the recently live streamed Letter from the Producer LIVE Part 66, numerous details were revealed about the upcoming expansion to the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker. The Live Letter primarily focused on the changes and adjustments being made to all of the jobs currently in the game and the two new classes. While I’m not a master at every class in the game, I have a baseline knowledge of every class, enough to comment on the most apparent changes. Here’s everything we know about the new FFXIV Dragoon!

NOTE: As the Media Tour embargo has lifted, extra info has come out about all jobs. While most of the information is still fairly accurate, I’ll be making a piece per “role” in the game to make note of especially interesting things we couldn’t glean from the Job Actions trailer.

As a disclaimer, all content in the video is technically subject to change, and Naoki Yoshida did mention that not every new trait or action has been shown in the Job Actions trailer. Additionally, my comments are based on a mixture of the content shown and discussed and speculation based on previous job knowledge. Without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s the Job Action Trailer for reference.

Dragoon has been a class that used two combos that looped into one another while building resources to enter a high damage phase. This new iteration of the class seems to further that by both giving Dragoon some flashy new abilities in its normal flow, as well as a (presumably) high potency action, added to the Life of the Dragon phase.

Most notable here is that Chaos Thrust either appears to have been upgraded or replaced with another action after Disembowel in the first part of its Mobius strip-styled combo. Additionally, Full Thrust appears to have been augmented as well, potentially making one of its strongest moves even stronger. The new action mentioned in the slide below could be another new action not yet shown, or merely could be referring to the two attacks mentioned earlier.

Interestingly, it seems the AoE rotation has been expanded yet again to a four-part combo. Perhaps this is the dev’s way of signifying Dragoon is the Melee with the best AoE capabilities.

Another small note was given in the form of another charge for Spineshatter Dive. This will allow for both more damage overall, but also give some leniency to using it right away, and the action can now be used more for its intended purpose of mobility.

The FFXIV Dragoon is a Job I’ve played for years, and I’m very excited to use the class in full when Endwalker releases!
