FFXIV Reaper: Endwalker Job actions

In the recently live streamed Letter from the Producer LIVE Part 66, numerous details were revealed about the upcoming expansion to the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker. The Live Letter primarily focused on the changes and adjustments being made to all of the jobs currently in the game and the two new classes. While I’m not a master at every class in the game, I have a baseline knowledge of every class, enough to comment on the most apparent changes. Here’s everything we know about the new FFXIV Reaper!

As a disclaimer, all content in the video is technically subject to change, and Naoki Yoshida did mention that not every new trait or action has been shown in the Job Actions trailer. Additionally, my comments are based on a mixture of the content shown and discussed and speculation based on previous job knowledge. Without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s the Job Action Trailer for reference.

As a new addition to FFXIV, Reaper looks to be a very interesting class with tons of Void-based abilities and a high damage phase achieved by merging with the Voidsent it summons. The class bar shows two resources, one which looks to be used by Voidsent attacks and another which accrues through the use of scythe slashes.

The main burst phase of the job occurs when the Reaper fuses with the Voidsent, allowing it to use (seemingly) a minimum of five high-powered attacks in succession.

Reaper can also put down a portal that it appears to be able to teleport to and from. Additionally, Reaper has a party buff of some sort, though it has been stated to not be as big support as Ninja or Dragoon. Another player seems to give resources to the Reaper similarly to Dancer’s Espirit.

What strikes me as interesting is the mention of “unique and specialized actions give them an edge in specific combat situations,” as it seems relatively unique to Reaper. Other classes do have damage mitigation through Feint and Addle, as well as damage or crit buffs like Brotherhood or Battle Litany, so I’m not sure exactly what this could refer to.

Ultimately, we won’t know every little thing until Endwalker releases, but Reaper looks to be a sick addition to the Melee DPS.
