In the recently live streamed Letter from the Producer LIVE Part 66, numerous details were revealed about the upcoming expansion to the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker. The Live Letter primarily focused on the changes and adjustments being made to all of the jobs currently in the game and the two new classes. While I’m not a master at every class in the game, I have a baseline knowledge of every class, enough to comment on the most apparent changes. Here’s everything we know about the new FFXIV Monk!

NOTE: As the Media Tour embargo has lifted, extra info has come out about all jobs. While most of the information is still fairly accurate, I’ll be making a piece per “role” in the game to make note of especially interesting things we couldn’t glean from the Job Actions trailer.

As a disclaimer, all content in the video is technically subject to change, and Naoki Yoshida did mention that not every new trait or action has been shown in the Job Actions trailer. Additionally, my comments are based on a mixture of the content shown and discussed and speculation based on previous job knowledge. Without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s the Job Action Trailer for reference.

While a mainstay of FFXIV, Monk looks to be one of the classes which have transformed the most between Shadowbringers and Endwalker alongside Summoner. While the core gameplay flow looks similar overall, Perfect Balance and the Masterful Blitz system allow for varied usage of high-powered attacks.

Upon usage of differing weaponskills, the attack that is executed via Masterful Blitz changes. This can be seen in the Job Actions trailer above after the accumulation of the three little symbols below the Chakras. While Monk already has quite a few heavy-hitting attacks, Masterful Blitz attacks look to be both visually interesting and high powered.

Beyond the Masterful Blitz system, other minor changes have been made to Monk. Chakras are unlocked earlier, as displayed above, and the gap closer has been changed.

Shoulder Tackle was an ability that allowed the Monk to dash forward and hit the target at high speeds, but Monk’s mobility action seems to be a 3 charge dash move similar to Dancer’s En Avant.

During the Live Letter, Naoki Yoshida mentioned that the focus was to address Monk’s gameplay’s key concerns and make it a more active class overall. The Masterful Blitz system in tandem with Greased Lightning looks to achieve both of the goals. And, at least in personal experience, my Monk pals seem incredibly hyped for Endwalker!
