Arcwind Point is the perfect example of why Skyrim is this generation’s greatest game

We don’t say this often, but Skyrim is one of the greatest games of all time. We know it’s regarded as one of the best in recent years, but we’re talking all time. Why? Well… The recent buzz around Arcwind Point, one of the Dungeons in Skyrim, is a perfect example of this.

Arcwind Point Isn’t A Big Deal In Skyrim

You might be wondering what Arcwind Point even means in relation to Skyrim and why it’s so important. Here’s the great part about all of this: It’s really not that big of a deal.

We don’t want to slate Arcwind Point, though. It’s a perfectly reasonable location in Skyrim; Arcwind Point might resemble more of a Nordic Temple than a Nordic Tomb, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous. Skeletons can be found roaming around the entrance to Arcwind Point and there’s plenty of Draugr to tackle in and amongst all the action.

In addition to this, if you have Dawnguard DLC installed, a dragon should spawn at Arcwind Point. When you reach level 78, this will also be a Legendary Dragon. They might behave like any ordinary Skyrim Dragon, but the loot they offer makes Arcwind Point somewhere you may want to venture if you’re powerful enough.

However, that’s pretty much it. There’s more than one place to find a Legendary Dragon and Arcwind Point only offers one minor notable item: The Withershins Restoration Skill Book. It might be considered one of the higher levelled areas in Skyrim, but it’s largely nonessential to anyone playing Skyrim and a “missable” location.

We hate to say it, but Arcwind Point is pretty useless as a Skyrim location. Why does that make it special though?

But, It Makes Skyrim a Big Deal

Recently, Redditor u/midnight-spice shared the following statement about Arcwind Point while playing Skyrim:

” I found this dungeon for the first time yesterday. I’ve been playing this game for about 7 years.”

On the surface, at a glance, this Reddit Post might seem as pointless as Arcwind Point. However, it actually reinforces the aforementioned statement that Skyrim is the greatest game of our generation, if not all time. Why you might ask? Here’s why.

Skyrim has fostered a player-base so involved in its’ virtual world, so inspired by the stories it tells and so addicted to its strangely perfect broken gameplay, that it still has people playing it seven years after launch. This might not sound like a lot, but for a single-player RPG that hasn’t been updated with any additional content for over eight years… It’s damn impressive!

In addition to this, this recent discovery of Arcwind Point after that much Skyrim is proof that it still has secrets for players to explore. We all like to think we’ve played Skyrim more than enough, but the depth it offers in every aspect of its gameplay keeps players coming back. Whether that’s in the countless readable books scattered on the shelves of the College of Winterhold, or the hidden locations nestled between the peaks of Skyrim’s mountains… It is a game that has so much more to offer than anyone gives it credit.

It hasn’t got the best graphics, the smoothest combat, or the most compelling voice acting and dialogue… But all of these sub-par features have been cobbled together to create one of the most memorable experiences gaming has ever offered.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, according to Margaret Wolfe Hungerford, and everyone can find some form of beauty in Skyrim, no matter what.

It’s One Of Countless Undiscovered Secrets

We know we are talking about Arcwind Point as if it’s a “hidden gem” that no one has heard of, but that isn’t the case. It also isn’t the point. One man’s “Arcwind Point” is another man’s “Ghost of Old Hroldan”. Skyrim isn’t fantastic because Arcwind Point has just been discovered by someone after seven years, it is great because you can always discover something new after seven years of gameplay.

When it first launched, reports showed that Skyrim had over 60,000 lines of voiced dialogue in the game. How many of those do you think you’ve heard over the years? We can imagine a lot of you have heard quite a few thousand, but there’s always another conversation to have in Skyrim.

Even if you have had your fill of Skyrim’s questionable voice acting, that’s the beauty of the game. Skyrim’s brilliance is that it isn’t always about what people say to you. There are dungeons like Arcwind Point buried in the mountains, notes inside Burial Urns with instructions and/or warnings scrawled across them, random books that open up a whole new questline for you to explore…

We know The Elder Scrolls 6 is quite a ways off yet, but we’ll still be talking about Skyrim twenty years from now. Trust us.
