Fortnite Voice Reporting Settings: Can You Turn Recording Off?

Fortnite Voice Reporting is used to report harmful voice-chat behaviour, and the settings depend on the player’s age and chat channel. Epic says players aged 18 or older can choose Always On or Off When Possible, but voice reporting stays enabled in Game Channels and in certain parties. Players under 18 cannot fully disable the system.

Use the instructions on Epic’s official account or Fortnite settings pages, and keep any password, PIN or one-time login code private. Account eligibility and available controls can vary by the player’s age.

Where to find the Voice Reporting control

Launch Fortnite and open the menu, then Settings and the Communication tab. Select Voice Reporting and choose from the available options. Epic’s instructions also allow adult players to change reporting preferences through the Epic Games Launcher communication settings. If the current game shows a different layout, look for the Communication or voice-chat controls rather than trying an unrelated privacy toggle.

What Always On means

With Always On selected, Fortnite Voice Reporting is enabled in every channel you’re part of. Epic uses voice-reporting technology to support player safety and reporting. Choosing this option doesn’t mean every conversation is automatically made public or that other players can browse your voice recordings. It determines whether the reporting capability is active for the eligible chat session.

Fortnite Voice Reporting: what Off When Possible actually does

Adults can select Off When Possible. Epic says it disables reporting in friend-only parties when every participant also has Off When Possible selected. The moment somebody joins whose preference is Always On, reporting becomes active for that party. This is not a blanket ‘never record my voice’ switch. Fortnite Voice Reporting still follows the channel and membership rules.

Why Game Channels always use Voice Reporting

A Game Channel joins players on the same team or island who may not belong to the same friendship party. Epic confirms Voice Reporting is always enabled in those Game Channels. Off When Possible applies only to eligible friend Party Channels. If the social sidebar says On after you selected Off When Possible, check whether you’re in Game Chat or a party containing somebody with Always On.

Fortnite Voice Reporting: can players under 18 turn it off?

Epic says Fortnite Voice Reporting stays enabled for players under 18. They can mute their microphone or turn off voice chat if they don’t want voice audio captured, and guardians can manage communication permissions through Parental Controls. Underage accounts don’t receive an unrestricted recording opt-out. A Cabined Account may also have voice and free text chat disabled until parental consent is completed.

Stop sending voice audio by muting

Open the game’s voice-chat controls and mute yourself, or set voice chat to Off/Nobody where available. This stops you contributing live audio through the Epic voice channel, although it doesn’t change the recording settings for everybody else. If you’re using external console party chat or streaming software, those services have their own controls. Fortnite Voice Reporting preferences shouldn’t be confused with microphone hardware mute.

Why the sidebar says On after you chose Off

Epic documents three cases: someone in the party has Always On, a new member joins with Always On, or you’re in a Game Channel. The party can include connections through the Epic Games Launcher or mobile app, so don’t assume only players visibly standing in your lobby count. The status accurately reflects the current channel even if your personal preference remains Off When Possible.

Parental controls and privacy questions

Parents can sign in through Epic’s account portal and adjust child chat permissions without altering age information. Account restrictions and national digital-consent rules may limit available options. Fortnite Voice Reporting is a safety feature; teaching a child to bypass it would not restore legitimately restricted communications. Contact Epic Support if the account’s age or voice settings appear incorrect.
