Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos are consumable tools that help you find Sprites or extract them safely. The reported Treasure Hunters chest rewards include Lucky Locator, Sprite Locator, Portable Extractor and Extraction Accelerator. They’re useful if you’re building your Sprite collection, but they’re not skins or other Locker cosmetics.
If a chest gives you a Gizmo instead of a gold outfit, you haven’t missed a claim button. You’ve got a tool to spend in Battle Royale. Here’s what each one does, how to use it and which ones are worth saving.
What do Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos do?
Locators help you find Sprites. Extractors help you keep them. The similar names make them easy to mix up, so here’s how the four reported prizes compare.
| Gizmo | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lucky Locator | Finds a buried chest with a Sprite you haven’t collected yet. |
| Sprite Locator | Spawns a buried chest nearby containing a random Sprite. |
| Portable Extractor | Extracts the Sprite you’re carrying without travelling to an Extraction Site. |
| Extraction Accelerator | Starts a nearby Extraction Site silently and summons the crate straight away. |
The Lucky Locator is best when your collection has only a few gaps left. Epic says it finds a buried chest with a Sprite you haven’t collected. You still need to open that chest and extract the Sprite, and you don’t get to choose its variant.
A Sprite Locator works differently. It spawns a nearby buried chest containing a random Sprite. That gives you another find, not necessarily one that’s missing from your collection.

The Portable Extractor is for when you’ve found something worth keeping and don’t want to risk crossing the map. It extracts your equipped Sprite from wherever you are. The Extraction Accelerator still uses a nearby site, but starts it quietly and calls in the crate immediately. Epic documented both mechanics in its earlier Battle Royale updates.
Where to get Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos
The chest reward list reported on 1 November includes all four tools. According to those reports, opening ordinary Battle Royale chests can give you a random Treasure Hunt prize. Epic hasn’t provided exact chances for individual Gizmos, so there’s no reliable chest location or number of openings that guarantees one.
There are also established ways to earn Extraction Gizmos through the Sprite system. Epic lists Bonus Goals, Sprite Dust exchanges and Sprite Mastery. Check the options in your own game before spending Dust; a reported chest prize doesn’t mean every Gizmo is available in every reward track.
How to use Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos
Open your Gizmo Wheel through the Pickaxe slot, rather than hunting through the weapon slots or Locker. The controls depend on your platform, but the sequence is the same.
- Enter a Battle Royale match and switch to your Pickaxe slot.
- Open the Gizmo Wheel with the control prompt shown for your platform.
- Select the Gizmo you want. If you’re extracting, equip the Sprite you want to keep first.
- Activate the tool and follow the prompt. Each use spends one Gizmo.
Use a Locator when you have time to search for the chest it reveals. Keep a Portable Extractor for a rare Sprite you actually want to bank. If you spend the Extractor on a common duplicate, you may wish you’d saved it for a better find later in the match.

Do Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos last between matches?
Yes, but only until the season ends. Epic says your unused Gizmo inventory carries from match to match, can’t be traded and won’t drop when you’re eliminated. Used Gizmos are consumed. You can check the expiry timer on the Battle Royale mode selection screen or in the Gizmo Wheel.
That makes a Gizmo different from a Sprite you’ve extracted into your collection. Extracting a Sprite banks it for future matches, while holding a Locator in your inventory simply means you can use that Locator later. Neither action adds an outfit to your Locker.
Why Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos don’t appear in the Locker
Gizmos are gameplay items, not permanent cosmetics. Check your Gizmo inventory when you enter Battle Royale. If you’re looking for the reported free gold outfit, Jam Track or Back Bling, those belong to separate reward categories, and winning a Gizmo doesn’t award any of them.
The best way to use Fortnite Treasure Hunt Gizmos is to match the tool to your run: find a missing Sprite with Lucky Locator, or safely bank one with Portable Extractor. The chest reward claims still need the current in-game prize screen to confirm availability; the mechanics above come from Epic’s own notes.
