Fortnite Treasure Hunters Gold Bars are gone because Epic has vaulted the currency for the new Battle Royale mini-season. It’s an intended change in the November 1 update, not a problem with your account or an empty balance you need to recover.
The change also makes Follower services free. Ordinary Vending Machines have been removed, although Pocket-O-Matics are still available in Zero Build. Here’s what you can use instead of gold on Crossbones Isle.
Why are Fortnite Treasure Hunters Gold Bars missing?
Epic’s v43.00 Battle Royale notes confirm that Gold Bars have been vaulted. You can stop looking for a way to buy weapons from the old Vending Machines because those machines have been removed along with the normal spending currency.
This is a rule for Treasure Hunters Battle Royale, not an announcement that Gold Bars have been permanently wiped from every Fortnite mode. Epic hasn’t said that Save the World, OG or Reload have all received the same change.

Fortnite Treasure Hunters Gold Bars: how to hire Followers
Hiring a Follower now costs nothing. Find a Follower NPC during a match and interact with them to use their service, without saving up bars first. That makes it easier to bring along help even if you’ve just landed and haven’t found much loot.
The update specifically says Follower services are free. It doesn’t say every NPC interaction or every possible purchase is free, so don’t assume you can obtain all items without collecting them. You’ll still need to find the NPC you want to recruit.
Epic hasn’t listed exact Follower spawn coordinates in the update notes. You can explore the new named locations in our Crossbones Isle map guide, but the official announcement doesn’t identify a particular Follower at a particular building.
Have Vending Machines been removed too?
Yes. Regular Vending Machines have been removed from Treasure Hunters. If you’re following an older Battle Royale map showing a machine at a familiar location, that purchasing route no longer applies to this season.
There’s one exception worth keeping separate: Pocket-O-Matic devices remain available in Zero Build. They’re not the ordinary Vending Machines Epic says are gone. Pocket Items include the Shockwave Grenade, Port-A-Bunker and Shield Bubble Jr., although the announcement doesn’t give the stock of each individual device.
Our Treasure Hunters loot pool lists the returning weapons and healing items too, including the Sentinel Pump Shotgun, Machine SMG and Slurp Juice. You’ll find those through the island’s loot rather than purchasing them from an old vending spot.
Do your old Gold Bars carry over to another mode?
The official notes describe vaulting Gold Bars for this mini-season. They don’t make a broader statement about permanently deleting an account balance or applying the change to every Fortnite experience. A missing Gold Bar counter in Treasure Hunters is expected; a permanent account-wide deletion isn’t something Epic has announced.
The Fortnite Treasure Hunters Gold Bars rule is straightforward: no gold spending in this Battle Royale season, no regular Vending Machines and no charge for Follower services. If you’re playing Zero Build, keep an eye out for Pocket-O-Matics.

What to do now that Fortnite Treasure Hunters Gold Bars are gone
Concentrate on getting a loadout from the current loot pool, then visit a Follower if you’d like an NPC ally. Crossbones Isle also has new equipment to hunt down, including One Piece abilities, as well as the Shock Rocket that can drop from the A$AP Rocky boss aboard The $.$. Rocky.
These changes affect how you spend and recruit, not your ability to fight, loot or explore. You can still take on the new boss, use the island’s cannons and collect the returning weapons and fish. The main difference is that finding Gold Bars is no longer part of your routine.
If you’re checking whether Fortnite Treasure Hunters Gold Bars are gone for everyone, the answer is yes for this mini-season’s Battle Royale rules. You don’t need to troubleshoot your account. Hire Followers free of charge and look for supplies in the new loot pool.
