Fortnite live event not working? If you are stuck on Finding Server, cannot ready up with friends or see a locked event playlist, check the message on your screen first. Busy servers and parental controls need different fixes, and restarting at the wrong moment could mean missing a one-off show.
Epic Games has specific troubleshooting advice for live shows. The key is knowing whether you are still trying to get in or have already joined. Here is what to do before you give up on the queue.
Fortnite live event not working: check these first

Make sure you have selected the official event tile in Discover and finished any required Fortnite update. If you are still in the lobby, follow Epic’s advice in this order:
- Check status.epicgames.com for a Fortnite matchmaking outage.
- Check the official @FortniteStatus account for event-specific updates.
- If you have not joined the event, restart Fortnite and try the playlist again.
- If the servers are overloaded, wait a few minutes before retrying.
Fortnite live event not working right as the show begins? High demand can temporarily overload matchmaking, even when your game and account are fine.
Already inside? Stay there. Epic also warns players not to close the game. Restarting makes sense before you have gained entry, not when you are already in a working event.
Fortnite live event not working on Finding Server
Finding Server means matchmaking has not placed you into the event session yet. Check Epic’s current status notices, then try again after a short pause while the playlist is still open. Repeatedly pressing Ready Up will not fix an overloaded service.
Read numbered matchmaking errors carefully too. Regular-match errors can have causes different from a live-event queue. For example, our Matchmaking Error 3 guide explains the Battle Buses Full message.
Fortnite live event not working because the playlist is locked

If you see “This experience is locked. Your parent or guardian needs to unlock it”, check parental controls. Select Unlock when offered. A parent or guardian can enter the Parental PIN and allow access if the account and regional age-rating rules permit it.
Some events cannot be accessed in certain regions because of local age restrictions, and Epic says these cannot be overridden. A PIN lock also differs from the separate “unlock from details page” message, so use the exact wording to decide what to check.
Fortnite live event not working because the playlist says it is locked? Waiting in a matchmaking queue will not change account permissions. If you are entering a competitive tournament rather than a live show, its rules are different; see our Arenas Test Cup guide for an example.
Can’t ready up with your party?
Epic says party matchmaking can be slower during live events. If your group cannot get in together, have each person try joining individually. You might watch in different sessions, but everyone gets a chance to connect.
Epic records attendance per player, not per party. Being in a friend’s lobby is not the same as your account entering the event. That matters if an attendance reward is offered.
Can you join after the show has started?
Whether you can join late depends on the particular event and whether its playlist is still accepting players. Follow the current official entry instructions, not an old island code. Do not count on a replay, and never leave a working live show just to try another queue.
Fortnite live event not working even after you’ve checked Epic’s status updates? Note the full error, your platform and when it appeared, then give those details to Epic Support.
What if you disconnect during the event?
Epic says players who crash, are kicked or disconnect while the event is running still count as having attended. If the event offered an attendance reward, delivery can take up to 72 hours after the show ends.
For Locker checks, reward eligibility and contacting support, read our Fortnite live event reward missing guide. Being present in your friend’s party alone does not establish that you attended.
Fortnite live event not working: quick answers
Should I restart Fortnite? Yes, if you are still stuck outside the event. No, if you have already joined and it is running.
Why does it say locked? Check the parental-control message and the account’s permitted age ratings. Regional restrictions can still prevent entry.
Can I get a reward if I crashed? Epic counts connections interrupted while the show was running as attendance. The event must also have an eligible attendance reward.
