Lefty and Righty received several buffs in Fortnite Save the World v42.40 on October 15. Double Agent Evelynn now reduces its cooldown without needing eliminations, Noir makes the ability last longer, and the dual pistols themselves deploy faster. These changes can make older Hero builds feel very different.
The update also introduces Grave Feather, whose perks improve the same ability’s critical hits. Whether you prefer shorter downtime, a longer firing window or more critical damage, the three Heroes now give you distinct ways to build around it.
Evelynn’s new cooldown perk
Double Agent Evelynn’s Where’s Lefty perk now reduces the Lefty and Righty cooldown by 30% in support, or 66% when she’s Commander. The old elimination requirement is gone. You get the benefit even during a long fight against a single miniboss.
That’s particularly useful in encounters where you’re doing plenty of damage but not getting frequent kills. A shorter cooldown means you can bring the pistols out again sooner, rather than waiting for weaker enemies to appear so you can trigger the old perk.
How Noir’s Pump Metal changed
Noir now extends Lefty and Righty by five seconds in support, or twenty seconds as Commander. Like Evelynn’s change, this is no longer tied to securing eliminations. You get a more reliable duration as soon as the ability is active.
If you’re facing a tanky opponent, you can keep firing for longer without having to finish smaller enemies to maintain the effect. It also makes Noir an attractive support choice for anyone who wants more uptime without giving up another Hero’s Commander bonus.
Evelynn versus Noir
Evelynn makes Lefty and Righty available more frequently, while Noir lets you fire for a longer stretch each time. Both can sit in the same loadout, but you only receive the Commander version of the perk from whichever Hero leads it.
Try Evelynn as Commander with Noir in support if you prefer shorter waits. Swap the two if longer shooting sessions suit you better. The most useful setup depends on the mission, the enemies and how much you rely on the ability compared with your normal weapons.
Grave Feather’s critical-hit option
The new Grave Feather Hero unlocks through the Portal Combat questline. Ghoulslinger grants Lefty and Righty 15 extra Critical Rating in support. The Commander version grants 45 and gives critical hits a 40% chance to summon a Phantasm.
That Phantasm bonus isn’t guaranteed on every shot. You need a critical hit and then the chance must trigger. Grave Feather offers a different kind of value from Evelynn and Noir: he’s about improving attacks rather than reducing the wait between them.
What changed to the pistols themselves?
Epic also sped up the Lefty and Righty draw animation and increased its baseline duration. Those changes apply regardless of whether you’ve unlocked Grave Feather. If you’re returning from an earlier update, the timing of the ability may feel unfamiliar.
That means an old build comparison may no longer hold up. Advice based on Evelynn requiring eliminations or Noir extending the duration only after kills should be checked against the new perk descriptions instead.
Which Commander should you choose?
For frequent Lefty and Righty activations, Evelynn is the most straightforward option. Noir is attractive if you want to stay with the pistols for longer. Grave Feather gives you stronger Critical Rating and the opportunity for Phantasm attacks.
The decision isn’t purely about whichever number looks largest. A twenty-second duration extension and a 66% cooldown reduction solve different problems. Try the two configurations in a familiar mission before spending time reorganising an entire Hero loadout.
How to test the updated perks
Open your Hero Loadout, equip Evelynn as Commander and note how often you can activate Lefty and Righty. Next, try Noir as Commander with Evelynn in support. Compare the time between activations and the amount of time the pistols stay active.
If you own Grave Feather, test him in the Commander slot during fights where critical hits are common. The changes are live with v42.40, so you can judge the results in normal missions rather than relying on pre-patch advice.
