Fortnite Challenge the Rift is a new Save the World encounter introduced on October 15 in update 42.40. You spend four BluGlo to activate a Rift, which starts a sealed fight against a mini-boss. Completing the encounter can reward Gold, PERK-UP! and an Evolution Materials Cache.
The four-BluGlo activation cost is the important preparation detail. You don’t want to find the event while carrying none, and the sealed combat area means your team should be ready to fight before triggering it.
How to start Challenge the Rift

Find the Challenge the Rift encounter during an eligible Save the World mission. Look for the Rift interaction rather than assuming this is a Battle Royale event. Gather four BluGlo from the mission before trying to activate it.
Fortnite Challenge the Rift begins when you spend the four BluGlo at the encounter. The Rift seals you inside the arena. Once you’ve entered, you cannot leave until the fight ends; if you’re eliminated and respawn outside, you cannot go back into that same encounter. Heal, reload and gather the team before activating it.
Where to get the four BluGlo
BluGlo is a familiar Save the World resource found while exploring mission environments. Collect enough to cover the encounter’s cost without leaving your current mission’s other objectives short of what they need.
Fortnite Challenge the Rift consumes four BluGlo per activation. Fortnite Challenge the Rift won’t become free simply because you’re playing with a high-level Hero or have completed another Halloween quest.
What happens when the Rift is activated
Once the Rift is activated, everyone can step into the circle to join the fight. Once inside, though, you’re staying there until the mini-boss is defeated. Any structures and traps already in the arena are cleared when it begins, so don’t spend materials setting up defences there beforehand.
The barrier also blocks attacks from outside. If you’re eliminated and respawn outside the arena, you cannot get back in to help. And if every player inside goes down, the mini-boss disappears and the encounter cannot be restarted. Bring the firepower and healing you need before spending those four BluGlo.
What rewards do you get?
Epic confirms Gold, PERK-UP! and an Evolution Materials Cache among the rewards. Those are useful for account progression and improving equipment rather than a cosmetic Outfit guaranteed from one victory.
Fortnite Challenge the Rift rewards include Gold, PERK-UP! and an Evolution Materials Cache. Check the end-of-encounter screen for the quantity awarded in your run.

Best preparation for the encounter
Enter with your health and shields topped up, enough ammunition to handle a mini-boss and your teammates ready to join you. Everybody who wants to fight needs to get inside before the opportunity passes.
There’s no rescue by firing through the barrier, and you can’t return after respawning outside. Finish the fight together or lose that attempt, so make sure the squad is ready before activating the Rift.
Is this part of Portal Combat?
The October 15 Save the World update also introduces the Portal Combat questline and Grave Feather Hero. Those additions share the patch and its Halloween theme, but don’t assume that every Challenge the Rift completion awards the Hero directly.
Fortnite Challenge the Rift rewards are Gold, PERK-UP! and an Evolution Materials Cache as specified. The Grave Feather Hero is linked to Portal Combat progression, with the questline running until November 18.
Challenge the Rift checklist
Start an eligible Save the World mission, gather four BluGlo, find the Rift, prepare the group and activate the encounter. Defeat the mini-boss and collect the rewards shown at completion.
Fortnite Challenge the Rift is available in the Save the World mode, not the standard Battle Royale loot pool.
