Fortnite Chester Sprite has two benefits in Treasure Hunters: Chests have a chance to drop extra loot, and Chester cancels fall damage. That makes Chester useful whether you’re looting buildings or dropping down from a high position.
The two perks work differently: bonus loot is chance-based, while fall-damage cancellation is one of Chester’s advertised abilities. Both are worth understanding before you choose it over another Sprite.
Fortnite Chester Sprite abilities explained

The Fortnite Chester Sprite can cause Chests to spawn extra loot when opened, and it cancels fall damage. You don’t need to defeat anyone to benefit from either perk, which makes Chester a strong choice when you’re exploring Crossbones Isle.
Open Chests as you normally would and watch for the extra drops. Chester gives you a chance at additional loot, not a guaranteed second copy of everything inside. Looting several buildings gives you more chances to benefit from that effect.
The other perk opens up more movement options. Chester cancels fall damage, which is handy when dropping from rooftops, battlements or raised walkways. That doesn’t protect you from enemy fire or other hazards, so choose your landing spot carefully.
How to find the Fortnite Chester Sprite
To hunt for Chester, search walls for Wanted Posters. Tear one down to turn it into a Sprite Treasure Map, follow the map to its marked location and uncover the buried Sprite Chest. Opening the Chest gives you a Sprite.
Wanted Posters work for the wider Sprite collection; they aren’t a Chester-only quest. If your first Chest contains another companion, keep searching. Epic’s map instructions don’t identify a guaranteed Chester drop location.
Once you’ve found the Fortnite Chester Sprite, open the Sprites tab in the lobby to find its entry. This season’s companions can be displayed in numbered order, while their Stamps record how you acquired them. Select View Info to read the Stamp details.
Best ways to use Chester in a match

Chester works well on a loot-first route. Search an area with several Chests for the chance of extra supplies, then take advantage of its fall-damage protection when moving down from a higher floor or crossing rough ground.
You can also use the fall-damage perk when leaving a rooftop under pressure, provided you have a clear place to land. Chester won’t keep you safe if you jump directly into another team, so pay attention to where you’re going.
Compared with the other new Sprites, Plundarrgh rewards Chest opening with faster Pickaxe use and movement. Wayfinder reveals nearby Sprites and adds loot from buried Chests, while Lil’ Flacko knocks nearby enemies back when you land. Chester’s advantage is the combination of potential extra Chest loot and fall-damage protection.
Fortnite Chester Sprite Fortune and Cursed variants
A Fortune Chester reveals nearby Chests, helping you find more opportunities for bonus loot. Cursed variants increase your chances of finding rare Sprite variants, at the cost of taking damage in water. Neither changes Chester’s basic purpose: opening Chests and avoiding fall damage.
Gold Sprites are scheduled for 12 November and award extra XP for eliminations. That’s a separate seasonal variant bonus, rather than another way for Chester to produce Chest loot.
Levelling Chester and Sprite mastery
Collecting the Fortnite Chester Sprite also counts towards the wider Sprite Mastery system. Open the Treasure tab for rewards including Lucky Locators and Golden Fireworks. Master 40 Sprites to unlock the Navigator’s Nosedive Umbrella; simply finding them isn’t the same as mastering them.
Mastery Monday doubles Sprite XP and Sprite Dust every Monday from 6 AM Pacific / 9 AM Eastern / 2 PM GMT / 3 PM Central European Time, beginning Monday 2 November. Epic says Wanted Posters and Sprite Chests also become more common during these events.
The Fortnite Chester Sprite is a strong pick for anyone who wants to search Chests without worrying as much about high drops. You’ll have opportunities for extra loot along the way, and you won’t have to trigger either perk by winning a fight.
