Fallout 76 Slasher Infestations Explained covers how the Slasher cultists appear in Appalachia’s existing Infestation activities, what rewards you can earn, and what Bethesda changed in the October 20 patch. The latest update increases the Legendary Scrip awarded for completing Infestations and fixes the Electric Absorption perk against their enemies.
Slasher Infestations are an activity you can take part in while following The Slasher investigation, but they aren’t a replacement for the Masked Truth quest or the grave-digging objectives. One current bug remains: Bethesda says some Infestations auto-complete and the team is investigating it.

October 20 Infestation patch changes
For Slasher Infestations, update 1.7.27.11 increases the Legendary Scrip reward for completion. It also fixes the bug that stopped the legendary perk Electric Absorption from activating against Infestation enemies, and corrects the Boss Skull overlapping a boss’s name on the encounter health bar.
Still unresolved: some Slasher Infestations can automatically complete. Bethesda acknowledged the issue in the October 20 notes and is working on a solution. If an activity ends unexpectedly, don’t assume you missed a specific Slasher ritual or an invisible target; check the official patch notes and the event status.
How the Slasher changes Fallout 76 Infestations

Slasher cultists appear within Appalachia’s existing Infestation activities. You can take part when an Infestation is available on the map, fighting themed enemies and completing the encounter as usual. This isn’t a separate PvP playlist or a quest you have to queue for.
For a Slasher Infestation, enter the active area and clear the enemies while following the event objective. The October 20 patch increases the Legendary Scrip you earn for completion, and the Electric Absorption perk should now activate correctly against Infestation enemies.
Why Slasher Infestations are worth doing
Infestations have their own reward pool, separate from the Masked Truth quest and grave-digging objectives. Bethesda’s Infestations release notes say that defeating an encounter boss guarantees a four-star Legendary weapon or armour piece, giving you a reason to take part even when you aren’t following the Slasher story. If you’re after a quest-only reward, check its separate unlock requirements first.
For Slasher Infestations and the wider event, use our The Slasher rewards guide to identify which items come from Infestations and which require story progress. The latest Scrip increase makes the activity more rewarding, but doesn’t automatically add every limited-time item to its drop table.
What Infestations do not replace
Completing an Infestation doesn’t skip the Masked Truth investigation, the grave-digging quest or the eventual Slasher confrontation. Track the relevant mission in the Pip-Boy if you’re following the story rather than farming events.
Infestations are repeatable activities for combat and rewards. When one appears on the map, join it and follow the normal objective, then check the additional seasonal drops you’ve actually received.
How to prepare for the activity
Bring a build comfortable with dense groups and a tougher boss target, keep enough ammunition and repair materials for repeated clears, and check the map rather than waiting in one location indefinitely. Infestation locations rotate around Appalachia, so normal event awareness still matters.
Look for the dark cloud marking a possible Infestation on the map. It shows the general area, not the exact position of every enemy. Joining an Exploration Public Team can also help you reach players who have already found the activity, particularly on busy servers where encounters disappear quickly.
The October 20 patch increased Legendary Scrip and repaired Electric Absorption against Infestation enemies. If your encounter finishes without a fight, Bethesda has acknowledged that some Infestations automatically complete and is investigating. The official patch notes list the confirmed fixes.
