Fallout 76 Pet Passives: Dog, Cat, Radhog and Deathclaw Bonuses

Fallout 76 Pet Passives

Fallout 76 Pet Passives give each World Pet species two themed bonuses in the current PTS: one passive that finds a useful item and one passive tied to a particular activity or environment.

Dogs lean toward Stimpaks and Grunt Hunts, Cats toward fishing, Radhogs toward radiation resources, and Deathclaws toward Black Titanium and Infestations. The passives level up as the species progression advances.

The passive table makes it clear why Fallout 76 Best Pet depends on what you are doing. A Cat’s fishing bonus and a Dog’s Bounty Hunt bonus come from different species, but the October 15 PTS lets you equip either while travelling with another pet after unlocking it.

Passive effects appear in the Pip-Boy Effects tab while the pet is active, which is the best place to confirm what the game currently thinks is applied.

When pet passives unlock

The current PTS unlocks the two passives at levels 5 and 20, then improves them at levels 40, 60, 85 and 120. Those thresholds make the early progression meaningful instead of saving every useful effect for level 200.

The Fallout 76 Pet Leveling guide covers how to earn XP, while the passive page is better for choosing which species deserves that XP first.

Dog and Cat passives

Dog passives naturally pair with Grunt Hunts because Bounty Sniffer can add a Legendary item to a completed Grunt Hunt, starting at one star and improving as the passive levels. Stimpak Fetcher supplies healing items over time.

Cat passives are built around the permanent fishing system. Baits Finder supplies Improved Bait and Mega Bits adds Fish Bits after catches. If that is your route, How to Start Fishing in Fallout 76 is a useful companion guide.

Radhog and Deathclaw passives

Radhogs focus on radiation resources. Goo-Getter supplies Toxic Goo, while Rad-Dration finds High-Radiation Fluids while the pet spends time in a Nuke Zone. That makes the species a resource-oriented choice rather than a generic combat winner.

Deathclaws find Black Titanium through Dark Titan and can add Legendary items to Infestation rewards through Fun-Festation. Fallout 76 Black Titanium Farm remains useful when you need a concentrated material route rather than passive trickle income.

PTS values can still change

Bethesda has already said it is working on feedback around Fallout 76 Pet Passives and has changed World Pets progression during testing. Treat the activity themes as the important design information and the exact frequency or quantity as test values until the live update arrives.

If a passive appears to fire far more or less often than expected, note that the PTS has already had passive-frequency issues. Reproduce it before building a permanent strategy around one test-session result.

How to equip Fallout 76 Pet Passives from another species

Bethesda changed Fallout 76 Pet Passives in the October 15 PTS update. Once you’ve earned a passive by levelling a species, you can equip it while travelling with any of the four pets. A Deathclaw’s Fun-Festation passive can stay active while your Cat, Dog or Radhog accompanies you. You aren’t required to keep the species that originally unlocked the effect summoned.

  1. Open your Pip-Boy and navigate to the Pets page.
  2. Press the on-screen Pet Buffs button.
  3. Select two unlocked passive buffs for the activities you plan to play.
  4. Summon whichever pet species you want accompanying you.
  5. Return to Pet Buffs whenever you want to switch those two active effects.

This means you can level several species, unlock their bonuses and choose a different companion later. The latest Fallout 76 Pet Passives changes also add a Pet XP progress bar, notifications for claimable rewards and fixes for buffs that granted too many items. They’re available for testing on the PTS, not guaranteed unchanged in the eventual live release.

Bethesda also lists a remaining Bounty Sniffer issue: if two legendaries of the same type are looted together, you may receive only one. The October 15 official PTS notes explain the cross-species buff system and current known issues.
