Escape Academy 2 multiplayer supports two people solving the whole Back 2 School campaign together. You can play online from separate devices or use split-screen couch co-op on one display. Solo play is also supported, and the game has a new optional No-Timer Mode.
Back 2 School isn’t asking you to choose between playing together and seeing the story. Its escape rooms, campus exploration and Extra Credit side quests form one campaign you can work through with a friend. The choice is whether you’re sitting together or connecting over the internet.
Does Escape Academy 2 multiplayer work online?
Yes. Steam lists online co-op, and Coin Crew says the entire game can be completed with a friend. Both players can investigate clues and work through puzzles from separate devices instead of sharing the same screen.
For online co-op, each player needs access to the game on a supported platform. Steam and Xbox have separate storefronts, and the announced Xbox Play Anywhere support does not by itself confirm crossplay between them. Check the multiplayer compatibility shown for the edition you’re using.
Escape Academy 2 multiplayer: local split-screen co-op
Yes. Couch co-op is also supported. In split-screen, two people play on the same device and display, which is a good fit if you prefer pointing out clues together instead of describing them over a headset.

The developers have confirmed local co-op throughout the game. The exact controller and keyboard setup depends on the platform; the full sequel is not simply using every control shortcut from the first Escape Academy unchanged.
Is Escape Academy 2 No-Timer Mode available?
No-Timer Mode is an option for people who want to solve puzzles without feeling hurried. You still need to work out the answers, but you can spend longer looking around a room and talking through the clues.
That’s a useful way for two players with different puzzle experience to enjoy the same campaign. The feature is confirmed for the full game; look in the released game’s settings for the control rather than following unverified menu instructions.
Can you play Escape Academy 2 alone or with four people?
You can play solo or in a pair. Official descriptions repeatedly refer to playing with a friend and list two-person co-op; they don’t advertise a party of three or four for Back 2 School.
If more friends want to join, don’t build your plans around a four-player lobby. The two-player design is about having another person notice the clue you missed, rather than splitting into a large squad.

What can friends do during the campaign?
The campus itself has puzzles, tunnels and traps, so there is more to discuss than the solution to each locked room. Players can explore between classes, pick up Extra Credit activities and investigate the mystery surrounding the Academy’s early days.
There are new professors and returning faces, too. Coin Crew has confirmed the main story can be played co-operatively, though joining an existing session partway through and sharing saves between accounts are separate details to check in the live game.
Try Escape Academy 2 multiplayer for free
You can test both ways of playing in the free Steam demo. It contains the first chapter and supports online and split-screen co-op, letting you try the puzzle teamwork before the full November 5 launch.
Our Escape Academy 2 demo guide covers the opening rooms and campus activities. Between couch co-op, online sessions and the optional No-Timer Mode, Escape Academy 2 multiplayer is built around letting two people solve the same adventure together.
