DayZ Badlands diseases add three named environmental problems to Nasdara: Heat Stroke, Irritated Eyes and Sillicosis, the spelling used in Bohemia’s 1.30 patch notes for silicosis. The desert’s strong sun, sandstorms and limited water make preparation important before any long loot run.

Unlike a familiar infected bite or an ordinary food problem, these hazards come from the conditions around you. Water, proper clothing and shelter can help manage exposure. The official notes do not, however, give a complete treatment or timing chart for every condition.

All DayZ Badlands diseases explained

ConditionMain environmental riskSupported response
Heat StrokeExcessive desert heat and sunDrink water, cool down, find shade or shelter
Irritated EyesSand and dust exposureUse water to rinse sand from eyes after a storm
Sillicosis (silicosis)Airborne desert dustReduce exposure with face coverings and shelter; no official timed cure specified

The names come directly from DayZ’s stable update 1.30 notes, released with Badlands on 15 October 2026. They are separate conditions: a player suffering in the sun isn’t dealing with the same hazard as someone who has been caught with sand in their eyes.

The desert also changes how you plan journeys. Water helps with hydration and cooling, and Bohemia explicitly describes using it to rinse away sand after a storm. Check your supplies before moving between settlements, especially when the next water source may be far away.

DayZ Badlands diseases: Heat Stroke and keeping cool

Heat Stroke is tied to the intense heat and sun exposure of the Badlands. Bohemia advises taking water to stay hydrated and cool yourself, and finding shade under trees or shelter in buildings. Lightweight clothing also suits the climate better than blindly wearing every heavy item you find.

Heatstroke is easier to avoid than to deal with halfway across the map. Use shade when you can, carry water and plan rest stops before crossing exposed ground. Drinking all your water early in the trip leaves little room to respond later.

The October 29 Steam Experimental 1.30.164289 notes say heatstroke behaviour was rebalanced. That’s an Experimental change, not proof the same adjustment is already active on every stable console server.

DayZ Badlands diseases: how to rinse irritated eyes

Irritated Eyes is the condition most directly associated with sandstorms. Bohemia explicitly says you can use water to rinse sand from your eyes after getting caught in one. Carrying water therefore matters for more than drinking.

When a sandstorm approaches, seek shelter rather than continuing through the dust without protection. Dust Goggles and appropriate face coverings are among the new Badlands equipment. If you are already affected, check the game’s available washing or face-rinsing action and use clean, available water when prompted.

The launch notes confirm rinsing sand from your eyes with water, but they do not state an exact number of washes or a guaranteed recovery time. Our sandstorm guide covers finding protection before the weather becomes a problem.

DayZ Badlands diseases: Sillicosis and dust exposure

Sillicosis is the exact term in DayZ’s Badlands patch list. The common real-world spelling is silicosis, which is why players may search both forms. In the game, it is linked to Nasdara’s dust-heavy environment.

Face coverings, Dust Goggles and sheltered routes are appropriate precautions when a storm is building. The developer has not specified a verified antibiotic cure, treatment time, immunity threshold or exact dust exposure count, so none should be treated as a proven DayZ mechanic.

Don’t treat eye irritation, heatstroke and dust inhalation as one illness with a single cure. Keep your exposure down and use the interactions available for the condition you’re dealing with.

What to pack to prevent DayZ Badlands diseases

To reduce the risk of DayZ Badlands diseases during a long journey, pack water, a face covering and goggles. Plan where to find a roof or some shade, and identify possible wells on your route. The DayZ Badlands wells guide explains the map’s repairable water sources.

The free 1.30 update added some related player actions, including washing your face and wetting clothing, but the three named illnesses belong to Badlands’ harsh Nasdara conditions. Those actions aren’t proof that all three illnesses share one guaranteed treatment.

With DayZ Badlands diseases, the confirmed advice is to manage heat with water and shelter, rinse sand from irritated eyes and reduce your exposure to airborne dust. The official patch notes establish the hazards and some ways to manage them, but not a universal medicine, exact onset timer or cure for Sillicosis.
