DayZ Code Locks: How to Secure Doors, Charge the Battery and Prevent Lockouts

DayZ code locks arrive with update 1.30 and the Badlands expansion launch, giving players a PIN-controlled way to secure compatible rebuilt doors and ordinary base fences. The locks aren’t restricted to Nasdara: Bohemia has confirmed the new equipment is available across other DayZ maps as well.

There is a catch that makes the new security different from a conventional combination lock. It relies on a charged V9 battery, and an unpowered lock automatically releases the door. That means keeping the battery supplied is just as important as picking a PIN your teammates can remember.

Where can you attach a new code lock?

The new lock is supported on rebuilt house doors from Nasdara’s restoration system and on compatible fences from the established base-building system. You don’t need to buy Badlands just to use the lock on a normal base fence once the free 1.30 update is installed.

DayZ code locks aren’t universal keys for every locked military room or building in the game. They work with supported player-built or restored entrances. Check the attachment slot on the actual door or fence before assuming you can secure any door you find.

How to install and power DayZ code locks

First, check that the entrance has a Digital Code Lock attachment slot. Fit the lock to the supported fence or rebuilt door, add a charged V9 battery and use the displayed interaction to set your PIN. Test the code while you can still access the door from both sides.

If the lock doesn’t activate, check the battery and attachment before changing your PIN. The electronic lock cannot keep an entrance secured when it has no power.

What happens when DayZ code locks lose battery power?

The lock loses power and automatically unlocks. This is particularly important for remote bases: even if nobody guesses your PIN, the door can stop being protected when the battery is depleted. Inspect its charge before leaving for a long loot run.

Treat the battery as part of your base supplies, not a one-time installation. Check its charge regularly, especially before leaving a shared base unattended.

How incorrect PIN attempts and lockouts work

The code lock introduces escalating protection against repeated wrong PIN attempts. The device can temporarily refuse more entries after incorrect guesses. Bohemia says the defence resets when the right PIN is entered, enough time passes or the lock is opened from inside.

If you have several incorrect attempts, stop guessing and use the PIN your group agreed on. A temporary lockout is different from an unpowered lock, so check which problem you’re dealing with.

Can other players destroy a lock?

Bohemia describes the code lock as indestructible while attached to the door. When removed, it can be damaged, and an electronic repair kit can repair the loose unit. Those are different states and shouldn’t be confused with the durability of the entire door or fence.

A lock that resists direct damage doesn’t make the surrounding base indestructible. For DayZ code locks to be useful, close vulnerable windows, finish the relevant walls and maintain the main structure alongside the electronics.

Using one code with teammates

For shared bases, agree a PIN only with players who need access. Avoid announcing it over public voice chat beside other survivors or leaving an obvious note in a loot container. When someone changes the code, make sure trusted squad members know before locking the last usable entrance.

If your base has more than one secured door, clearly identify which lock controls which entrance. The new DayZ code locks can protect both a restored storage-room door and an external fence, letting you create layers of access without turning every opening into a permanent brick barricade.

DayZ code locks versus combination locks

Security optionImportant difference
New electronic code lockPIN protection, V9 battery, automatic unlock on lost power
Existing combination lockTraditional base-lock mechanic without the new powered-code rules
Brick barricadeCloses an opening instead of creating a usable keyed entrance

Pick the method that suits your base. A brick barricade is useful for a doorway you never intend to use, while a working code-locked entrance lets people move inside. DayZ code locks offer electronic security but require ongoing attention to their batteries.

DayZ code locks only work from one side: October 29 experimental fix

If a Digital Code Lock works from one side of a rebuilt door but not the other, that is a documented DayZ 1.30 issue, not proof you entered the wrong PIN. Bohemia’s 29 October 2026 Steam Experimental Update 3, version 1.30.164289, specifically fixes locks that could only be used from one side in certain buildings. The developer tracks it as DZG-1772.

The fix is confirmed for Steam Experimental in those patch notes. It should not be described as already applied to every stable server, Xbox or PlayStation. Check which build your server is running before assuming the interaction bug has been fixed on your platform.

If your DayZ code locks still fail on one side, first check the battery and correct door attachment as usual. Then compare your server version with the experimental patch and use the regular interaction prompts. Don’t dismantle your entire base or reset a working PIN just to chase a fix that may not have reached stable yet. Our Badlands rebuilding guide covers related house slot and indoor detection fixes.

Why DayZ code locks aren’t working

Check that the object is supported, the lock is actually attached and the V9 battery still has charge. If the PIN entry temporarily stops responding after several wrong attempts, the lockout system may be active. Follow the normal recovery condition rather than repeatedly entering incorrect guesses.

On a modded or community server, check the server’s actual game version and settings. The October 29 one-sided fix is not a reason to tear down a working base or change a PIN without evidence.

DayZ code locks: quick checklist

Find a compatible rebuilt door or base fence, attach the electronic lock, provide a charged V9 battery and configure a PIN. Check the power regularly, keep the entrance structurally protected and remember that a flat battery unlocks the door automatically. These are the developer-confirmed rules most important to keeping your supplies secure.
