Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition is out now, bringing 25 buildable tiles, ten DLC packs and new graphics options to Nintendo’s latest console. It launched on 28 October 2026 for £41.49 in the UK, with a £37.34 launch offer running until 10 November.
This is the original Cities: Skylines reworked for Switch 2, not Cities: Skylines II. If you already have the 2018 Switch game, there’s also a 70% owner discount on the new edition. Here’s what’s included and how the two releases compare.

Nintendo lists a 6.0 GB download, single-player support and handheld, tabletop and TV play. The regular UK price is £41.49; the current 10% launch sale brings that to £37.34 until 10 November. This is a native Switch 2 release, adapted by Tantalus Media and published by Paradox Interactive.
Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition is a separate game purchase. Owners of the old Switch edition can buy it at a 70% discount during the loyalty window, rather than installing it as a free update.
What is new in Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition?
The biggest improvement is the land available to build on. The original Switch version offered nine buildable tiles; the new one gives you 25. That’s more space to separate industrial districts from housing, spread public transport across the map and build a city without hitting its borders so quickly.
A new map editor lets you shape the landscape before starting a city. Precision placement, updated snapping and a distance indicator help with road layouts, while the quick selection tool makes it easier to switch between assets. There’s also an environmental panel for changing time of day, rain, fog and environmental colours.
All DLC in Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition
Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition includes After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, Sunset Harbor, Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, Deep Focus Radio, Carols, Candles & Candy and Match Day. Four are full expansions; the remaining six are smaller content packs.
After Dark brings nightlife and tourism, Snowfall introduces winter maps and trams, Green Cities adds eco-friendly development, and Sunset Harbor expands fishing and waterfront activity. The other packs add map choices, landmarks, rural roads, football and music. They’re all included in the purchase price.
Graphics modes and supported controls
Paradox provides two graphics settings: Performance targets 60 FPS using upscaling and adjusted visual quality, while Quality targets 30 FPS and favours appearance. These are target frame rates, not results measured across every possible city. If you like smoother camera movement, try Performance first.
You can play with a keyboard and mouse as well as a controller. The distance indicator, improved snapping and quick selection tool should be particularly useful when arranging roads and lining up buildings.
Is there a free upgrade for owners of the original Switch game?
Original Switch owners qualify for 70% off Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition from 28 October 2026 to 28 April 2027. At the normal £41.49 UK price, a 70% reduction works out to approximately £12.45. The final amount will be shown when you open the listing with your Nintendo Account.
The loyalty discount is separate from the public 10% launch sale. Sign into the Nintendo Account associated with your original copy and check the Expanded Edition price before completing the purchase.
Can you transfer a Nintendo Switch save?
Nintendo lists Save Data Cloud support for the new game. That is a backup feature for Expanded Edition saves, not an instruction for importing a city created in the older Switch release. Keep your original save data if you want to return to that version.
Original Switch versus Expanded Edition
The old Switch release included After Dark and Snowfall and supported nine building tiles. The new package has eight more DLC packs, 25 tiles, a map editor and two graphics modes. There is no separately listed native Switch 2 Standard Edition alongside Expanded Edition.
For newcomers, Cities Skylines Switch 2 Expanded Edition is the native release with the bigger city area and wider bundle. Returning mayors have the owner discount to consider, particularly if the extra space, Green Cities and Sunset Harbor are features they missed on the older Switch game.
