Boltgun 2 bosses include the Lord of Skulls in Blood Machine and Vashtorr in God in the Machine. Both require more than constant shooting: Lord of Skulls hides weak points behind its head, while Vashtorr uses Healing Pylons to restore health.
You’ll also encounter a Great Unclean One, an elevator boss aboard Dauntless and a Forge Fiend with destructible arena supports. Here are the known locations and exact fight mechanics, including a postlaunch fix for a Lord of Skulls softlock.
Where to find the Boltgun 2 bosses

| Encounter | Location | Mechanic |
|---|---|---|
| Lord of Skulls | Blood Machine | Blood tanks, weak point behind head |
| Vashtorr | God in the Machine | Healing Pylons |
| Great Unclean One | The Vile Root | Opening in fleshy tree |
| Elevator boss | Dauntless | Grenade and cover |
| Forge Fiend | Mission not independently confirmed | Destroy support pillars |
These are the Boltgun 2 bosses encounters with identifiable mechanics in documented gameplay. The campaign has branching paths, so you won’t necessarily fight them all during one route. A boss appearing in a later mission doesn’t mean you skipped an essential encounter.
Boltgun 2 bosses: Lord of Skulls in Blood Machine
The first step against this Boltgun 2 bosses enemy is to shoot its glowing components while avoiding the axe shockwave. Jump over the shockwave and keep moving until the first health section ends. A passage opens on your right; enter and look left for two blood tanks on the monster’s back.
Destroy both tanks, take the jump pad and shoot the weak point behind its head. After being thrown into the arena again, destroy the glowing axe, hand and chest pieces. This time, the left door opens. Take it, look right, destroy the final two blood tanks and use the second jump pad to shoot the rear weak point again.
For the final phase, fire at the exposed head. Approach the fallen boss to finish the chapter. If its health becomes stuck, update the game: Auroch fixed two Lord of Skulls softlocks in the October 20 patch, including problems after loading a save.
Vashtorr: God in the Machine Healing Pylons
Vashtorr is the final major enemy in the Boltgun 2 bosses campaign. When a violet line connects him to a Healing Pylon, follow the link and destroy the pylon first. Shooting the boss while he’s being healed wastes ammunition. Repeat this whenever another pylon becomes active.
Use the rock formations as cover against his long beams. Vashtorr alternates between hovering and fighting closer to the ground, so keep a ranged weapon ready. Clear smaller enemies when they block your escape route. Malum can use heavy ranged fire; Nyra’s Slide and Leap help keep her moving between cover.
An earlier encounter at Ascent of the Arkifane involves an energy column and reinforcements. It isn’t the final fight, so don’t expect Healing Pylons in that earlier arena.
Great Unclean One: The Vile Root
The Great Unclean One in The Vile Root is attacked through a visible opening in the giant fleshy tree. Use that opening to damage the boss and move away from hazards and smaller enemies between volleys. The Boltgun 2 bosses tactics here rely on finding a clear line of fire rather than firing into the solid parts of the tree.
The exact number of hits depends on your weapons and difficulty. Save your heavy ammunition for moments when you can hit the exposed enemy. Don’t stand in one place just because you’re trying to finish the health bar quickly.
Dauntless elevator encounter
The Dauntless fight begins as an enemy rises through the central elevator. Throw a grenade into the opening, then keep your distance. The entrance remains accessible and contains armour, so retreat there if your protection runs low. When the enemy begins exploding, move behind cover.
Don’t assume a fixed number of Terminator reinforcements in this Boltgun 2 bosses encounter. Enemy counts can vary between runs. Keep watching both the boss and the rest of the arena.
Forge Fiend and collapsing pillars
A Forge Fiend fight uses destructible support pillars. Bring them down onto the enemy instead of spending all your ammunition firing at its body. The available walkthrough doesn’t independently establish the encounter’s exact mission, so the pillar mechanic is a safer way to recognise it than an invented level label.
For other Boltgun 2 bosses encounters, the weapons guide covers heavy guns, and our Malum versus Nyra guide explains movement abilities to help you dodge attacks.
