Battle for Tokyo From Home is possible without travelling to Japan and without owning Minecraft Dungeons II. Mojang has given remote players two confirmed ways to help defeat the global blue Creeper: kill Creepers in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, or complete the event’s Minecraft effect challenge through YouTube.
The physical centrepiece is at Tokyo Game Show, but Battle for Tokyo From Home is not a cut-down version of the event. Minecraft and YouTube contributions feed the same worldwide battle, and the dedicated event site tracks their damage alongside the attacks made by people at the show.
How to join Battle for Tokyo From Home with Minecraft Bedrock
The simplest route into Battle for Tokyo From Home is Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Open a world in Survival or Creative mode, find Creepers and defeat them. Mojang says those defeats contribute damage toward the giant blue Creeper.

You do not need a Minecraft Dungeons II copy, special event download or Tokyo Game Show ticket. Dungeons II launches on September 29, so the home participation route deliberately uses a game that is already available.
- Use Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
- Choose Survival or Creative mode.
- Defeat ordinary Creepers.
- Your qualifying kills contribute toward the shared Minecraft damage total.
How to join Battle for Tokyo From Home with YouTube
YouTube provides the second confirmed route for Battle for Tokyo From Home. Open the YouTube app, tap Create (+), select Effects and launch the Minecraft effect associated with the event. Complete the challenge, then record and share the result as directed.
This is separate from simply watching a Minecraft video. Mojang describes an interactive effect challenge, so ordinary viewing is not the same thing as making an event contribution. The Battle for Tokyo site has the current link into the YouTube route.
Do you need Minecraft Dungeons II for Battle for Tokyo From Home?
No. Battle for Tokyo From Home starts before Minecraft Dungeons II releases, so ownership of the sequel cannot be a requirement. The Bedrock route uses standard Minecraft, while the other remote route uses YouTube.
This is useful if you were confused by the Dungeons II branding. Battle for Tokyo is promoting the sequel’s story and villains, but it is not an early-access weekend or hidden demo. You are participating in a community challenge connected to the game rather than playing the new dungeon crawler early.
Can Java Edition join Battle for Tokyo From Home?
Mojang specifically names Bedrock Edition for the in-game route, so Java Edition is not currently a confirmed way to join Battle for Tokyo From Home. If you have both versions, use Bedrock for this event rather than assuming Java Creeper defeats are mirrored into the same counter.
Survival and Creative are both explicitly accepted in Bedrock. That means there is no need to change your preferred difficulty just to make a qualifying contribution.
How long is Battle for Tokyo From Home available?
The dedicated event site shows the Tokyo Game Show Battle for Tokyo activation running from September 17 through September 21 at 4:00 p.m. JST. Mojang’s broader announcement confirms the global fight began on September 17. If you want to contribute, it makes sense to do it during the live event window rather than assuming the counters will stay open after the Tokyo activation closes.
Mojang can still update the campaign as the shared health total changes, so the event site is the best live check for whether the battle is still accepting contributions.
Where to track Battle for Tokyo From Home progress
The Battle for Tokyo event site shows separate totals for Minecraft, YouTube and Tokyo Game Show. That gives Battle for Tokyo From Home participants a public way to see the home routes moving the same overall event rather than disappearing into an invisible submission form.
For the rules, use Mojang’s official Battle for Tokyo announcement; for the wider game, use the official Minecraft website. No named participation reward has been confirmed on those pages yet, so do not confuse the Dungeons II preorder cosmetics shown on the campaign site with a guaranteed prize for joining from home.
