ARC Raiders Flash Freeze is the sudden lethal snowstorm that can hit Pendola Pass. When the warning sounds, make your way under a roof or inside a building before exposure begins draining your health. Special Storm Huts may unlock while the freeze is active, but you don’t have to reach one if a nearer building or overhang offers safe cover.
Frozen Trail introduced this weather hazard on October 8, and it can interrupt an otherwise straightforward loot run or extraction. The warning is easy to underestimate when you’re already fighting ARC or carrying rare materials. This guide covers the signs of an incoming freeze, shelter behaviour, dangerous mistakes and how to get home safely.
How ARC Raiders Flash Freeze works
Flash Freeze is a dynamic Pendola Pass weather hazard, not an item you activate. Visibility worsens, temperatures fall and exposed players begin taking cold damage. An in-game warning precedes the dangerous phase, giving you time to find shelter. Once you hear it, stop taking unnecessary detours and look for the closest protective roof.
Embark hasn’t published one exact universal freeze duration or damage rate in the launch notes. The current ARC Raiders Flash Freeze warning and exposure indicator are therefore more useful than a stopwatch or advice based on one recorded match. If the weather is worsening, prepare to hide even when your health is still full.
Armour and shields aren’t reliable substitutes for cover. Healing can recover health already lost, but standing outside throughout the storm will continue draining supplies. Getting indoors first gives you time to reload, heal and work out the next safe part of the route.

What counts as shelter from ARC Raiders Flash Freeze?
Shelter in Commissary Supermarket, Old Town buildings, railway structures or any closer space that stops exposure. Gameplay reports also describe solid overhead roofs and overhangs stopping cold exposure, even where the sides aren’t enclosed. If you’re uncertain, check whether the freezing damage and warning indicator stop after moving underneath.
For ARC Raiders Flash Freeze, the best shelter is usually whichever safe roof is nearest. Running past three covered buildings to reach a Storm Hut across open snow is needlessly risky when all you need is temporary protection. The Pendola Pass map guide helps identify built-up areas during longer crossings.
When do Storm Huts open during ARC Raiders Flash Freeze?
The map contains nine Storm Huts or emergency shelters. The Storm Huts can open when freezing weather begins, with active shelters indicated on the map. A hut may still be locked outside an active storm. They can also hold useful loot, making them attractive to Raiders who aren’t only looking for cover.
Our dedicated Storm Hut locations guide lists all nine reported areas. Use that page for the actual map search. During ARC Raiders Flash Freeze, check the shelters currently marked in your game, because reaching a hut that remains locked doesn’t protect you from the cold.
Shelter entrances can also draw competition. If another squad has occupied a hut, look for a nearby ordinary roof before deciding to fight for the door. Your survival matters more than the spare loot inside, especially when you’re already carrying an item needed for a quest or workshop upgrade.

Why is a Storm Hut still locked?
A locked shelter may not be active yet. The map’s weather indicators are a better guide than assuming every marked hut opens as soon as you arrive. If the freeze has started but this particular shelter remains shut, move to nearby cover or an open hut rather than waiting outdoors and taking damage.
Some icy doors have separate interactions involving melting or breaking ice. Those are not the same as weather-dependent shelter activation. Check the prompt on the door before spending fire equipment or Raider Tools trying to force something that is inactive.
Does Redirection affect ARC Raiders Flash Freeze?
Current map-condition reports say Redirection suppresses Flash Freeze, so check the selected condition before making a shelter-farming run. That also changes the opportunity to access weather-opened huts, so players specifically farming shelter loot should check the selected map condition before deploying.
Our Redirection guide explains how the condition changes Pendola Pass, while all map conditions helps distinguish this local hazard from other storms such as the Electromagnetic Storm and Hurricane.

How to extract during ARC Raiders Flash Freeze
Pendola Pass uses Ballistic Gondolas. You interact with a transceiver, then move to the gondola’s separate landing point to board. That last stretch can be exposed, so don’t start it casually when a blizzard warning is already active. Use the Pendola Pass map guide to plan the transceiver approach, and gather your squad before the first player boards.
If ARC Raiders Flash Freeze begins while you’re running for extraction, shelter first unless you’re already beside a safely accessible pod. Reload, restore health and examine the remaining route before attempting the next crossing. The gondola’s boarding countdown is short once somebody enters, so teammates should regroup before one Raider starts the timer.
The same approach applies to quest and research items. If you are carrying an Insulation Roll or Epoxy Bucket for upgrades, avoiding an exposed fight can save a lengthy second farming run.
ARC Raiders Flash Freeze survival mistakes
Don’t confuse being next to a building with standing under its roof. A wall may block bullets without protecting you from the weather. Avoid expecting an already-looted hut to provide the same supplies every visit, and never assume fire by itself replaces overhead shelter.
When you hear the ARC Raiders Flash Freeze alert during combat, use cover to interrupt the fight if you can. New enemies such as the Bully may charge as you’re trying to move, so plan a retreat route before leaving the structure. Our Bully weak-points guide explains how to avoid that machine’s attacks.
ARC Raiders Flash Freeze questions answered
Can Flash Freeze kill you?
Yes. Continued exposure causes cold damage, and a Raider without protection can die.
Is a Storm Hut essential?
No. Ordinary buildings and suitable overhead cover can protect you; the huts are special shelters that may open with the weather.
Can I farm shelter materials every raid?
Not necessarily. The weather and available huts vary. Check whether the correct condition is active before planning a dedicated run.
Should I run for extraction when the storm begins?
Not automatically. Shelter and assess the route first unless the gondola is already safely within reach.
