Fortnite OG Starry Suburbs falling stars reward you with loot when you crack them open, including a chance to find the Legendary Tactical SMG. They land periodically around Starry Suburbs, a northern Rift Zone restored in Fortnite OG update v43.00 on 1 November 2026.

This is the same unusual looting idea that made the original Chapter 1 Season X neighbourhood memorable in 2019. You need to select Fortnite OG to visit it, as the separate Treasure Hunters Battle Royale island does not have Starry Suburbs.

Where to find Fortnite OG Starry Suburbs falling stars

Look for Starry Suburbs in the north of the Fortnite OG map. Epic says a Rift Beacon brought the neighbourhood back in v43.00. Land nearby and check around its streets and buildings for the stars that periodically fall into the area.

The original Starry Suburbs was a small residential area, with brick buildings and a distinctive tower. The screenshot below is from the 2019 version, so use your current in-game map rather than an old grid coordinate to identify the returning 2026 location.

How to open a falling star and collect the loot

Once a star lands, make your way towards it and crack it open. Epic’s v43.00 notes confirm that opening a landed star rewards you with loot. You don’t need to complete a quest or beat a boss to make the stars appear; they’re part of the restored Rift Zone.

The Fortnite OG Starry Suburbs falling stars don’t have a published fixed spawn timer or exact landing-point list for 2026. Keep moving around the neighbourhood and pick up ordinary weapons, shields and ammunition between arrivals. That way you won’t be left without a useful loadout while waiting for another star.

Star landings can attract other players, so be careful when crossing exposed streets to claim one. If somebody else reaches the reward first, you may have to fight for it. That’s a reason to arrive equipped rather than ignoring everything else on your way down.

Can Fortnite OG Starry Suburbs falling stars drop the Legendary Tactical SMG?

Yes, but the drop isn’t guaranteed. Epic specifically connects the Legendary Tactical SMG to the falling stars in its new update. Crack one open and you have a chance of finding the Legendary weapon, alongside other possible items.

Epic hasn’t announced the chance of getting the SMG from any one star. Finding other loot doesn’t mean you’ve encountered a bug, and opening several stars isn’t a guaranteed way to make the weapon appear.

The Legendary Tactical SMG is most comfortable in close-range fights, where its fast rate of fire can help after a shotgun hit. It isn’t the weapon to rely on for precise long-range shots. For more on its uses and availability, read our Legendary Tactical SMG guide.

Can you get the SMG without opening a star?

The Legendary Tactical SMG had already returned to the general Fortnite OG loot pool in the October 15 v42.40 update. Falling stars provide an additional confirmed opportunity to search for one in Starry Suburbs, not a requirement to use that location every match.

If you don’t get the weapon you want, keep the useful items you find. A different gun, more ammunition or extra shields might help you survive until the next star comes down.

Are Starry Suburbs and the stars on Crossbones Isle?

No. The Fortnite OG Starry Suburbs falling stars mechanic belongs to Fortnite OG Season X, while Crossbones Isle is the separate Treasure Hunters Battle Royale island. The two modes received updates together but have different maps and rewards.

Another OG Rift Zone, Greasy Grove, also returned in v43.00. It has Spicy Tacos and a Taco Time event that forces players in the area to dance, preventing shooting and building until the music ends. Our OG Season X map guide explains the returning locations.

How the 2026 stars compare with Chapter 1 Season X

Starry Suburbs first appeared during Chapter 1 Season X in September 2019, when shooting stars dropped valuable loot around the rebuilt neighbourhood. That original version explains why older Fortnite players remember watching the sky instead of just searching chests.

The Fortnite OG Starry Suburbs falling stars return brings back that central mechanic. The current update doesn’t confirm that every historical drop rate, star durability value or timing rule is unchanged, so stick to the new official details: find the northern Rift Zone, wait for a star, break it open and check the reward.
