Haunted Paws multiplayer supports two people, either together on one Nintendo Switch console or online. Nintendo also confirms local GameShare for the Switch 2 edition, allowing a nearby compatible Switch to receive the game from a Switch 2 host.

Each player controls a puppy trying to rescue its kidnapped human from a haunted mansion. The puzzle-solving is built around cooperation, but the equipment you need changes depending on whether you’re sharing a console, using local GameShare or playing from separate homes.

Haunted Paws multiplayer: how many players can join?

Nintendo lists Single System (2) and Online (2) on both the Switch and Switch 2 pages. That means a two-player adventure, not a four-player party game. The developers describe puzzles where both dogs need to cooperate to move further into the mansion.

Haunted Paws has no single-player mode. LazyFlock says the game is designed exclusively for two people, so you’ll need a friend to take control of the second puppy rather than expecting an AI companion.

Local co-op: one Joy-Con per player on Switch 2

The US Switch 2 product page says local two-player co-op works with one Joy-Con for each person, with no extra controllers required for that supported setup. It’s a straightforward choice when two people are sitting together using the same Switch 2.

For Haunted Paws multiplayer locally, charge both Joy-Con controllers and pair them with the Switch 2. Follow the game’s controller instructions when you launch it. Nintendo hasn’t published a step-by-step lobby guide for this title.

A same-console session isn’t GameShare. Both players are using the same system and the standard local co-op option, without a second console connected wirelessly.

Online Haunted Paws multiplayer: is Nintendo Switch Online required?

Yes. Nintendo says online play for Haunted Paws requires an internet connection, a Nintendo Account and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. The store lists an online player limit of two.

For Haunted Paws multiplayer online, both players need their own Nintendo consoles and access to the game’s online mode. Nintendo confirms online co-op for two; it hasn’t published specific room or invitation menus for the finished game yet.

Nintendo Switch Online is needed for the Nintendo online mode, not for downloading the free demo. LazyFlock has confirmed Steam, PlayStation and Xbox editions too, but its FAQ says there are no confirmed plans for cross-platform play.

Does Haunted Paws multiplayer have Friend’s Pass?

Yes. LazyFlock confirms that Friend’s Pass lets you invite a second player without requiring them to own another copy of the game. The Steam demo already advertises Friend’s Pass alongside local and online co-op. The developer hasn’t detailed identical download and invitation steps for every console edition, so follow the version you actually install.

Friend’s Pass and GameShare are not the same thing. Friend’s Pass is a feature promised by LazyFlock; GameShare is Nintendo’s local console-sharing system. Neither is proof of Steam-to-Switch or Xbox-to-PlayStation crossplay.

What does GameShare mean for Haunted Paws?

Nintendo’s Switch 2 store page explicitly says GameShare: Local. That means Haunted Paws multiplayer can use Nintendo’s local-sharing feature with nearby compatible consoles. It’s separate from both same-console co-op and an ordinary internet multiplayer session.

A Nintendo Switch 2 can host GameShare for a supported game. A nearby Nintendo Switch 2 or original Nintendo Switch can receive it over a local wireless connection without owning a second copy. The original Switch can receive but cannot host the sharing session.

With Haunted Paws multiplayer through GameShare, Switch 2 starts the connection while a friend on an original Switch joins as the receiver. That’s the important difference if you have two generations of Nintendo hardware.

Nintendo also has an online GameShare feature through GameChat for some compatible games, but that is not confirmed for Haunted Paws. The title-specific listing only names local GameShare, so don’t confuse the two.

Can Switch and Switch 2 players play together?

Yes, through local GameShare when a Switch 2 hosts and a nearby original Switch receives the shared game. Both Nintendo generations are also getting their own full-game releases in May 2027.

The Haunted Paws multiplayer information does not establish every possible cross-generation online pairing. Nor should the announced Steam, PlayStation and Xbox editions be mistaken for cross-platform support: LazyFlock says it has no confirmed plans for crossplay.

Does the free demo have all these options?

The free demo is available on Steam and both Nintendo Switch generations. The Steam demo specifically advertises local and online co-op, including Friend’s Pass. Nintendo’s full-game GameShare listing doesn’t establish which sharing features are enabled in each Switch demo build.

Our Haunted Paws demo guide covers the free downloads, and our release-date guide covers the May 2027 launch and announced platforms.

For Haunted Paws multiplayer, choose the setup that fits your consoles: two players on one system, two online with the required Nintendo membership, or local GameShare hosted from Switch 2. Friend’s Pass is another way to bring a second player into the game without a second purchase.
